Hi Bob

I first read about D3 on Earth Clinic and started taking it immediately afterwards. First of all I was taking 1,000 iu daily, then upped it to 2,000 per day. At first I felt absolutey fantastic, I suddenly discovered that I'd got the energy to cope with the house and garden, did lots of walking, and was thoroughly enjoying life. Then suddenly that wonderful feeling of increased energy stopped. So a couple of times I upped my intake of D3 to 5,000 iu, but the increased energy never returned. By the way I am 71 years of age.

Do you have any thoughts on this Bob?

Most doctors will not tell you this. Why is that? Anyway, I have been suffering from what appears to be osteomalacia since my early 40s. I have advanced osteoP.
I plan to take D3 on a regular basis; and see what happens. However, I hear too much regular vitamin D causes liver problems and certain cancers. See research on effects of high doses of vitamin D. I plan to research if high doses of D3 have the same effect.

just spen t a beautiful week in Jamaica. i spoke with people (young & old) who spend a lot of time in the sun, but i never saw any signs of skin cancer. i spoke with people who were well educated, and the general consensus was that their bone density is high (strong) because they do spend so much time (working or not) in the sun. ok, but what about the skin cancer? is it posssible that certain fruits or other types of food play a role in what appears to be a skin cancer free society? or am i all wet?? Vitamin d-3? i'm a very active 62 year young lady, & i contribute the reversal of my osteoporosis to d-3. my back seems to be a lot stornger, and most of the pain is obsolete. THANKS to this web site i now convinced my husband to start taking d-3 too!!

Bob,
I take V-D 1,000 units a day and after your research will up my dose. I have thin bones and at 68 years young do not want a fracture of any kind. This is a great site full of good information.
Thank you very much.

Bryan,

I think your suggestion is correct. I'm not sure of a specific study on that point, but recommend The Vitamin D Council for more research on the subject. There is a mountain of research on their site. Bob.

Peter,

Cataplex D from Standard Process is an excellent product and I do still recommend it. I also recommend (and take daily myself) Advanced D3 Plus from Health Resources (www.healthresources.net). Both are great supplemental forms of vitamin D. Thanks for the question. Bob.

Thanks for the info and I've been hearing a lot about vitamin D lately. I recently heard that people with dark skin require 3 times the amount exposue to sunshine as do those with light skin in order to get adequate D naturally. This made me wonder if there is evidence of dark skinned people showing more signs osteoporosis or other D deficiencies in areas where there is little sunshine. Have you ever heard of such a study?

Thanks, Bryan

If memory serves, you used to recommend Cataplex D from Standard Process as the best vitamin D supplement. Is this no longer your recommendation?
