The War on Christmas
December 11, 2009 by Chip Wood
I’ve written before about how upset I get at all the politically correct prissies who refuse to let their salespeople or employees wish their customers “Merry Christmas” this time of year.
Because they’re afraid they might upset someone who doesn’t celebrate the holiday they insist on such mind-numbing platitudes as “Season’s Greetings” or “Happy Holidays.” I hear it over and over again—and always respond with a loud and cheery “and Merry Christmas to you!” Most of time, I get a cheerful “Merry Christmas” right back.
Sadly, the war against Christmas continues to gain ground. Public-school officials at Marysville Elementary School in Wilmington, N.C., decided not to allow the kindergarten class to sing “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” at the school’s annual Christmas—oops, scratch that—the school’s annual holiday show. Seems the parent of one student objected to the song because it contained the word “Christmas.” She didn’t want her little tyke exposed to something with “religious overtones.” So the school officials buckled.
What do they do at the public schools in your area?
Meanwhile, the battle against public display of anything religious claimed another victim, this time in Washington, D.C. The new visitor’s center at the United States Capitol contains a replica of the Speaker’s rostrum in the House chamber. It’s an exact copy, except for this change: The actual chair has the words “In God We Trust” engraved across the top. The phrase is missing from the copy. I wonder which scaredy-cat bureaucrat decided on that?
We’ve become so afraid of offending a tiny (but vocal) minority that it’s perfectly all right to ignore the wishes and beliefs of a huge (but silent) majority. I’ve heard this sad situation referred to as the tyranny of the minority. But I think a more accurate phrase is the cowardice of the majority. What a bunch of spineless sissies our leaders have become.
What the Constitution Actually Says
Permit me to rant for a bit about one of the biggest lies the anti-religious zealots have used against us. It is that “the Constitution requires the separation of church and state.”
Baloney. The Constitution requires no such thing.
Let me begin today’s lesson by asking you, what is the most important sentence in the U.S. Constitution?
I would submit that it’s the very first one. Do you remember how this marvelous document begins? Our founding fathers set the tone for everything they believed, and everything that would follow, in Article I, Section 1, sentence one. It reads, “All legislative powers herein granted are vested in Congress….”
A friend of mine who has lectured widely on the Constitution likes to stop at this point and ask: “Are there any math students present? Okay, maybe you can help me out. If ‘all’ lawmaking power resides in Congress, how much is in the Supreme Court? Right, none! How about the Executive Branch? Right, none again. Thanks for your help.”
There’s a very important principle here—one that has been deliberately obfuscated over the past 50 years. A Supreme Court decision isn’t supposed to be “the law of the land.” The Court has no Constitutional right to make law. All it is supposed to do is to decide “the law of the case.” Their decision should be binding on the plaintiff and the defendant … and no one else.
Instead, for most of my lifetime, layer upon layer of additional government has been sanctioned, and even initiated, by the black-robed justices of the U.S. Supreme Court—men and women who regularly and repeatedly ignore the very first sentence of the document they have sworn to uphold.
And let me digress for a moment to note that the very same principle applies to the Executive Branch. What lawmaking powers does the Constitution bestow on the President and all of the cabinets, agencies and commissions he oversees? Again, the answer is none. Yet we get Executive Orders, Presidential decrees, all sorts of new rules and regulations, and now dozens of new “czars,” for crying out loud. Each and every one has assumed powers that are nowhere granted in the Constitution. And no one dares challenge them!
With that as background, let’s turn to the First Amendment (the one used to justify arguments for “the separation of church and state”) and see what it actually says.
Here is how it begins:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”
That seems pretty clear, doesn’t it? “Congress shall make no law,” either promoting a religion or prohibiting one.
According to the Constitution, what are the states allowed to do, when it comes to religion (or just about anything else)? The answer is, pretty much whatever they want.
Could a state require that the Ten Commandments be posted in every courthouse? Sure it could.
Could a city or county government install a crèche on its lawn every Christmas? Absolutely.
Could a governor encourage the citizens of his state to call on the Almighty to alleviate drought or do other good works? Without a doubt.
The framers of our Constitution expected the citizens of each state to decide for themselves how state and local affairs would be conducted. Would every state decide the same thing? Absolutely not. Our founding fathers expected differences to emerge between states. Some would be minor, some major. If one state passed laws you felt were onerous, you could vote to change them—or move to another state.
The idea that every law and every rule in every state should be exactly the same as the ones in every other state would strike our founding fathers as the height of absurdity. They believed that differences were good; that competition would reward good policy and punish bad.
The system worked pretty well for more than 150 years. It could work even better today, thanks to the vastly improved flow of information and transportation. If we choose, we can learn a lot about policies and procedures in other states. And if we like what we find out, we can get there a lot easier than our forefathers did.
Instead, we’ve permitted the tyranny of the minority to trample the rights of the majority. Maybe it’s time for the rest of us to demand our rights back.
My hat is off to the Bill O’Reillys, the Glenn Becks and the others across America who are fighting the good fight to celebrate Christmas this Dec. 25, and not just a “happy holiday.”
But I wish they would do more. I wish they would help us take the offensive against the liberal loonies who have gotten their way for far too long. How about a national campaign to explain and then restore the U.S. Constitution? That would be a Christmas present that would benefit the entire country.
And to all the sorry appeasers and retreaters out there, I hope someone roasts your chestnuts in an open fire. Bah, humbug, indeed.
Until next time, keep some powder dry.

Great article Chip! I get tired of being politically correct, even at Christmas.
LOL! I am tired of being politically correct (PERIOD). How about being MORALLY corect!!!!! Political correctness has stepped way over the line on so many morally correct toes. Christmas is as American as baseball, hotdog, and apple pie. If those who believe so much in political correctness are worried about offending anyone, then QUIT offending folks such as myself who love and appreciate our Country as well as our Constitutional rights. Leave America and go back to the land from whence your ancestors came. eg. Harry Reid can go back to Scotland; Nancy Peloci can go back to Slovakia; Obama can go back to Kenya; etc. etc… But stop trying to change the Home of the Free America. HO! HO! HO! and Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!! Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!!! Hallelujah!!!! and pass them there Irish potatoes!
I couldn’t agree more. Yes Christmas is as American as Baseball, hot-dogs, & apple pie. I am 56 years old and I have some of the best memories of my life during this time of year and I’ve passed the tradition to my children.
Yes it’s the minority that are too blame for this political incorrectness and discontentment towards American traditions.
People can go back to their homeland if they don’t like our American traditions! We also need to take back control of our country from those liberal hypocrites and idiots that don’t possess any morals. And you know who you are and what I’m talking about.
Thanks Chip, I feel the same way that you do, we need to take our country back.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
You can say Merry Christmas or Hail Hitler if you want. Not imposing my values and will on others is also as American as apple pie! Perhaps we should consider that American value in our quest to be politically incorrect. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
Exactly, Merry Christmas too you too!
War on Christmas??? Wow!! I think it’s much ado about nothing. Don’t we actually have important things going on?? And, stores are trying to sell crap and it’s their right to try to not offend people and it’s true that there are 10′s of millions of non Christians who don’t celebrate X-mass. What’s so offensive about ‘happy hollidays’?? It covers all bases and includes everyone…it’s also true that X-mass IS a Christian day. Relax people…
I love Christmas but I think that yall care to much about some ignorant clerk or store employee telling you Merry Christmas. Christmas is in your heart. So do like I do, let them know your distaste for their policies by where you spend your money
I totally agree with you. What is happening to the United States of AMERICA? CHRISTMAS is CHRISTMAS always has been and hopefully always will be. It is just discusting that we are having to fight for CHRISTMAS! I totally agree, if you do not like CHRISTMAS, GO HOME!
Glenn Beck was correct when he said something to the effect, “if we are not standing up for America, we will wake up one morning and wonder where we are living”. If anyone does not agree with Glenn Beck, they are crazy, he said it and it is happening. CHRISTMAS is one very good example for what is headed our way. I hope every true American has a very MERRY MERRY MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Glenn Beck is crazy (so are his minion followers). All that alcohol and illegal drug abuse fried his few brain cells. What’s up with right wingers and drug abuse? Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
Fool,
Well if you want to go there Obama is crazier, look what all that cocaine has done too him.
He hasnt’ a clue what he’s doing.
Glenn tells it like it is, unlike the MSM which is owned by the Dems.
Glen Beck is not crazy! He is usually right on the mark. As to his drug use, etc. have you never heard of forgiveness and repentance? Is that too much of a Christian concept for you to understand?
You Know something Your name fits You Foolpatrol bubba was coke head most cronies were as well This most recent Pres says pot was ok perhaps he still thinks it is what is it with You lefties that talk trash about right radio hosts or past rep vp elects what scare’s You so much on the left
steven…that made lots of sense!!I’m joking!
Like Clinton didn’t inhale, and Ted Kennedy didn’t drink???? This administration is filled with tax cheats, Mao lovers, perverts, and those who think they are “hoilier than thou”.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
The ADl, ACLU<AIPAC Have changed you Money You Laws and Your Motality And Whjen They Get rid of Our Righjt to Bear Ams they will Try and Put a Six Pointed Star On our Flag insted of the Five pointed Star and Mak The United States The 51 State of Israiles
Did You Ever Wonder Why They Call Israil a State?? Then What is the Isralie State a nation Too ??.
Down With Rudolf, And Santa Claus,Userpers As Oboma Bushes Clitons an Aipac Known to me As The Anti Christ
Merry Christmass
AMEN to that sister!! They can go back from whence their ancestors came from, since they believe we have treated those other people in those countries so bad. Those other countries ought to be paying our military defense for protecting them. Why do they get a free welfare ride? TRUE AMERICANS WHO LOVE THEIR FREEDOM NEED TO STAND UP AND FIGHT FULL FORCE AGAINST ALL THESE FREEDOM HATERS, AND SHIP THESE PEOPLE OUT OF THE COUNTRY BASED ON TREASON. God Bless you!
Laura, relax girl, and how about you and your crazy buddies leave. This is MY country!!! Just because you want to return the country to the stone age doesn’t mean you get to. Grow up, please.
(Words removed for offensive content) Christmas has been with this country from its beginning, as it should always should be! Happy holidays? What holiday is that? CHRISTMAS!!! The day our lord was born. What year is it? I guess you anti Christmas people have no year along with no brains. You’re destined to repeat your past, unless you try to rewrite it, like in California. They are the Founding Fathers… …not the framers. It’s Christmas, not some unknown holiday.
Laura,
Pay no attention. He is just the self-appointed board Harpy who thinks name-calling, ridicule, condescension, and other childish tactics pass as intelligence.
DaveH…look above and see who is calling names..you’re too biased to read correctly?
Mike…I’m SO hurt!! I know you can’t help yourself,so relax and try to respond rationally. First, I’m not anti Xmas. The term happy holidays is intended to include Jews and non believers in the spirit of the ‘holliday’. Jews are celebrating Hanukkah, every bit as important to them as Xmas is to you.
Lastly,Your Lord was not born on the 25th…it’s the day that the early church chose to supplant the Pagan holiday that had been held at that time for thousands of yrs. All Biblical scholars agree that the 25th was not the birthday of your Lord. It’s only symbolic and intended by the catholic church to get rid of the Pagan religion.
@ Laura
Wow! Typical right wing, hate filled, “Christian” response! Where’s the love and charity of Christ? Remember this, “For God so loved the WORLD” (not the US, THE World)? I’ll bet you think Sarah Palin is smart too, don’t you? God please help us! Americans are getting stupider by the day! Happy Holidays!
Good sentiment Laura. “America, LOVE it or LEAVE it” And take a few of your freedom hating Muslim buddies with you…
The very thing that made America great is what they are trying to wipe out in the false name of “progress”. And the Muslim / Kenyan Obama is leading the carge.
j c…I’m trying very hard to not call people who believe that crap you wrote, morons! I don’t want to sink to the low level of discourse displayed by most of you rightwingers who choose to believe what some moron is telling you to believe..Limbaugh,Beck,Savage(who is worse than a moron). All you can do is rant w/ lies about Obama and call we more rational people names. Figure it out, name calling here does not scare us away. Got it??
gee denniso, that’s ok. You can call me a moron if you like. Because if you are a follower of that communist Obama I would do the same for you. That low life is about as UN American as they get. Beleiving in the basic values of freedom and liberty are not “right wing” they’re “American”. Something Obama is not. And I have no intention of trying to frighten any one away. Merry Christmas.
MERRY CHRISTMAS MERRY CHRISTMAS MERRY CHRISTMAS, GOD BLESS AMERICA GOD BLESS AMERICA GOD BLESS AMERICAN AND TRUE GOD FEARING GOD LOVING PEOPLE TO THE REST OF YOU GFYSWATB4.
Right on! I couln’t have said it better! I work in the public and have been told Merry Christmas more times than I can count, not one Happy Holidays! If you get away from the media & politicans, I believe the majority of Americans feel the same!
An excellent article, from the heart and based on truth. Of course “truth” like “freedom” is something that the politically correct can only wonder and debate about. Their house is built on sand and their thoughts are like the unrepentant Grinch. Christmas has been celebrated since the days of ancient Rome. It was first a pagan holiday that was adopted at the time so Christians could celebrate the gift of their savior and still have a popular holiday that was known to all. However, I can imagine some in ancient Rome, saying something like, “Well, if Nero thinks these Christians are a danger than they must me” as they watched them being fed to the Lions. “Bread and Circus’s” they called it then, today it’s free health care paid by anyone who earns over $25,000 and a hundred other freebies (or so they think). THERE IS NOTHING FREE IN THIS WORLD BUT GOD’S GRACE! If our nation were a legitimate company they would have long ago have been forced to file for bankruptcy. Even the president has said our spending is unsustainable and yet he wants us to spend more for health care and energy and troops and who knows what else. Of course, President Obama will be blamed for the economic crisis that is coming, just as Hoover was in our grandparent’s time, and some analysts think this one could last 20 years or until we get our budget under control but that will not happen as long as we can just keep borrowing and raising the national debt. This debt is now so big it can only be paid with inflation and you won’t believe what food and fuel will cost in the future. However, the guilt for the destruction of our way of life should be equally shared by Congress who are throwing away the future of our children and grandchildren by their frivolous and incessant spending. You cannot solve a problem caused by spending to much, by spending more. A child could see that! While it can be said that the insane spending and bloated budgets of Congress and the usurping of power by bureaucracies of all kinds (including the Supreme Court as Chip points out) is “a” cause of much of our distress, an even greater cause is that we have not acknowledged God in our affairs or given Him His place of honor as did those who founded this once great country. Please don’t take objection to my use of the term “‘once great” until you have read my politically incorrect book on the subject. By the way, my definition of political correctness is that it is God’s punishment to mankind for sin! When I look at the United States I can feel somewhat like Jesus must have felt when he looked over his beloved Jerusalem knowing that it would be destroyed in a few decades by the Romans and that it’s glory would be a thing of history. The Bible says He wept, but at least He warned those who would listen to pack up and get out when they saw it about to happen (all mentioned in the Bible). As a follower of Jesus I can look over our “America the Beautiful” and lament that we have allowed those who cannot see her as we do, to begin to dismantle her great institutions and replace them with a socialist and eventually totalitarian form of government. Can we stop this train from wrecking? Can we stop our ship of state from sinking? Could the Jews have stopped the advancing Roman armies in 70 AD if they had taken Jesus seriously and prepared? I do not know. Sadly, I’m inclined to think that we have gone to far and are now deserving of God’s chastisement, but perhaps we can keep the ship from sinking altogether like the Titanic. The major voices of those who keep spending are the Benedict Arnold’s of the 21st Century, heroes to some, traitors to others. I cannot believe they are ignorant of what they are doing or else they have deceived even themselves in their mad lust for power. I think we have allowed them to create problems that are now bigger than we can solve. Only with God’s help can we put our house in order but the ACLU want’s Him and our constitution out of the way. We base new programs and health bills on fantasy financial projections. We imagine that corruption will just go away and we are destroying what we say we are trying to save and build. Congress is already trying to raise the national debt, again, and again, and again. When will the Chinese and all the others who have been paying for all this wise up and stop supporting our ‘habit’ and loaning us the money or is that their plan to destroy the USA? Is that why we have begun this year, for the first time in history, to just print money and pretend that it is real? In my autobiography three years ago I had one long final chapter on the economy and the coming stock crash and economic crisis and I quoted one of the top Chinese military experts on the topic of “financial war!” It is not a game to them! Doesn’t the populace realize that our national debt can never be paid except by inflation and if we keep raising the National Dept and printing money like it was worth something that we are just increasing that inflation until we will all be impoverished millionaires? The Chinese know that and that is why they are telling their citizens to take at least 5% of their savings and buy gold which is sold in every bank and post office in China. How bad can it get when you just keep printing and not producing? In Zimbabwe it costs well over a trillion dollars – yes A TRILLION dollars – for a loaf of bread but when Clinton was president I’m told it used to cost just $3. Congress has long ago spent all the monies taken out of our paychecks for social security and medicare and now they want to raise taxes (and fees, and fines) to get back what they have spent. We must stop the spending and tighten our belts or we are all going to be hungry in the future. We have become the spoiled brats of the western world. Once we were great innovators and inventors but now we have been reduced to that ugly word “Consumers.” Why not “destroyers” or “devourers”? CONSUMERS! By the way you can add ‘political correctness’ to the list of modern sins. God has not forgotten the United States but while I won’t call upon Him to curse the US as did Obama’s former minister it seems that He will let us have our way without His influence of justice and hope and morality and peace, if that is what we truly want. Perhaps as He blessed ancient Israel when they came to their senses He will once again bless us if we come to ours. Perhaps this Christmas, when we once again celebrate His incredible offering of LOVE we can turn to Him once again and ask Him to forgive us of our sin and guide us through the tumultuous times ahead. Perhaps he will give us one more chance and He will stop those evil men who would even keep us from bowing our head to say grace before a meal if we are in a public place. For those few who still believe in the truths of the Bible remember that it says to pray for your leaders, not hate them. Paul, one of the great founders of Christianity was once a persecutor of Christians. People can change so if you are a believer – pray. Long live the United States! May God once again bless America, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
This is a great article by Chip Wood!
Richard Pawley,
Enjoyed your comment. I haven’t read your book but plan to. I’m in the process of attempting to write a book, but it’s difficult when you have your own business & have to work at least 16 hours per day to barely make a living. I’m not writing it to get “wealthy”. I just want to buy my small new house (that I’m leasing) before I die!
When I was in grammar school, we had Bible class once a week & looked forward to it…Christians & Jewish children. We allowed one atheist, Madalyn Murray O’Hare, & one Unitarian, Edward Schempp to take Bible out of our schools in 1963 (I think). Why? What gave these two the right to destroy the rights of the majority? We’ve become so complacent that we’ve just let our Constitutional rights be trampled by just a few evil nitwits without so much as a whimper, let alone a protest until the “Tea Party” movement!
I admire the “Tea Party” protestors! Finally, normal, American freedom-loving people, Conservatives, standing up for their rights! But even their peaceful protests are smeared as “violent, angry, terrioristic mobs” (yet we can’t call a true terriorist, a terriorist) by all the media except Fox News.
The only hope I have is God’s Word “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray & seek my face & turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven & will forgive their sin & will HEAL THEIR LAND”. 2 Chronicles 7:14
If we, as Christians, all pray TOGETHER for forgiveness of our own sins & the country’s sins of allowing it to be taken over by the ungodly, then maybe he will “heal our land”!
Also, PC people need to KNOW that this is Christmas! They can celebrate any holiday they choose, but WE’re going to celebrate the birth of our Savior whether they like it or not! The politically correct can just get over it!
Merry Christmas & God Bless Our Country that’s being assaulted & destroyed by the Progressive Politically Correct!!!
USmadgirl,
Thank you, Iwas going to post something here and you opened for me with your bible school containing even Jewish children.
I was going to say that with Hannuka that only the jewish really had a right to be upset as their holiday falls during Christmas, but I haven’t even had one Jewish person try to stop me from saying Merry Christmas. I ven send some Jewish friends Christmas cards and they send me Happy Hannuka Cards. None of them are ever upset, in fact I had one tell me it shows that I am thinking of them therefore it’s good!!! Please don’t bring up Kwannza as it started less than 100 years ago here in the United States!!!
Kwanzaa started less than 100 years ago? It started in 1966.
Joe H,
Thank you! Years ago, I worked for a wholesale store owned by two Jewish men. They hired me to fill & decorate Easter Baskets to sell to retail stores, but kept me on as a sales clerk. At Hanukkah, I wrapped all the family presents for every night of Hanukkah, but they had Christmas for all the Christian employees. It was great! Even Bernie Goldberg defends Christmas & the right for Christians to celebrate. He also likes for people to wish him a “Merry Christmas”. I think most American Jews feel pretty much the same!
Everything was fine until the “Progressive Politically Correct” instigators. Right now on Fox, they’re showing where vandals destroyed the town’s Christmas decorations in Frankfort, NY. Mean people make me sad!
You people want to follow the Constitution literally, but when we do, then you go all batty, as you don’t get to use the greeting or pray in schools like you want. Dudes, the Constitution protects people from people like you all…….. Can’t have it both ways. P.S. the churches shouldn’t be getting government subsidies either, and should be losing their tax exemption when they mix religion with politics or lobbying.
EYO, exactly right…the constitutional literalists aren’t at all consistent. They use the document when it’s convenient and want to ignore or ammend or reinterpret it when it doesn’t support their wacky view.
“‘Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion.’ These were the first ten words of the American Bill of Rights, and they were a miracle of history. For the first time in human experience, the legislative power of a nation was forbidden from legislating the conscience of man. There would be no establishment of religion, no state church or official religion. Faith would be celebrated but not commanded. Worship would be protected but not prescribed. The founders had even guaranteed it by a second phrase they added to these historic first ten words. Not only would Congress ‘make no law respecting the establishment of religion,’ but it would also never ‘prohibit the free expression thereof.’ Together these sixteen words stood guard on the ramparts of the new nation against the tyrannical tendencies of the centuries.”
This is an extended quote from “Ten Tortured Words” (2007) by New York Times best selling author, Stephen Mansfield. In this extremely well researched work, Mr. Mansfield explores and refutes the many deliberate delusions put forth by the pagan Left in its attempt to destroy the influence of Christian principles in our government, the concepts that help prevent them from gaining tyrannical control over our nation. The obvious truth in this matter is shockingly different from that presented by the treasonous MSM and it’s cowardly toadies in government. Mr. Mansfield’s book will open the eyes of those who want to see the truth without regard to what is considered by the thoroughly deceived Left to be politically correct.
Christmas Was Celebrated Befor During and After The Declaration Of Independenceand the United Stated Constitution was Singed and Was Made a Holy Day Passed By Congtess It was made a National Holly Day\(Words removed for offensive content)
Paul, you are a bigot, and it is an embarrassment to call you an American.
The ACLU is a left wing organization of course they want Christ out of Christmas. They are afraid of God because they are godless. Even the devil acknowledges God and His Son, Jesus Christ. I send the ACLU a Merry Christmas greetings. Not because I like them or hate them because I want them to know that God sent His Son to died for them too.If they are stupid enough to not know Jesus Christ,, I feel sorry for them, the ACLU living in this country and not know Christ. What a lost. When they those in ACLU leave this world they, those in ACLU will know what they have done wrong by then it will be too late.
Great article! I do not understand all the bending that is done to appease the minority. It is time for a revival in our country and to reinstate the constitution they it was written, in the context it was written!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
Fool, ditto, to everyone…. or Happy Holidays from a Christian.
Couldn’t agree more! Great Article! I think the recent happenings regarding gay marriage reflects that the majority is getting tired of the minority demanding and getting their way. I for one always say Merry Christmas and after that I always say remember the reason for the season, the birth of Christ.
Funny how those who want to remember the birth of Christ seek to deny access to preventative health care and life saving treatments to ALL of God’s children. Go figure. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
Fool, that’s so much baloney. No one wants to deny health care to anyone. You should have heard a doctor today speaking of the healthcare bill. It’s Congress that will be denying healthcare. That bill is a travesty.
American they’re not very analytical (Libs) nor do they care about the facts.
The remedies being proposed to resolve the healthcare issues are a travesty ($$$) and socialistic.
Am cit…If healthcare costs are beyond the reach of tens of millions of CITIZENS and the rightwing extremists deny a way for those costs to become affordable, then tens of millions are DENIED access to timely healthcare. Forcing millions to wait until they are at death’s door into emergency rooms is the most expensive approach and inhuman!
As I said, you should have heard that doctor who actually read the bill. He said health care would be rationed as there are not enough doctors now. The way the bill reads, it won’t help anything. The Dems refuse tp dp what really needs fixing. We have an insurance problem, not a healthcare problem. We have the best in the world. The government wants to run the healthcare system. They’re not doctors who know what your needs will be. They’re not really listening to the people.
You absolutely gave yourself the correct screen name. Only fools are foolish enough to agree with what’s going on in our once great country. The handwriting is clearly there and only fools are not reading it.You should go back into the hole you crawled out of. If you are an American you should remember that our forefathers made this country great and our soilders have died to keep it free and safe for you to live in. You are a prime example of what is causing the downfall of America. God Bless America. Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays. If store clerks say that to me they will be quickly reprimanded and wished a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.
AMEN to that! I’ll reprimand those employees as well. And then I will contact the manager and reprimand that one too. And tell them if they don’t fix their MERRY CHRISTMAS issue, then I want a refund of all the merchandise I just bought.
Forcing a business or person to say “Merry Christmas” is wrong. If they say, “Happy Holidays”, that’s OK, too, as there is more than one holiday celebrated at this time of year. It’s and individual’s or business’s right to greet you as it sees fit. At least they greet you. Don’t look for offense where none is intended.
God Bless the people of the entire world, no exceptions! Happy Hoildays!
Fool No one is denying anyone health care I mean Medicaid Medicare which help pay for NOW which is Gov’t Run…also a mess People need to Get Off the dole And earn and learn TO BECOME SELF Sufficient.
Tell that to the 18,000 AMERICANS who die every year due to lack of health insurance! Tell it to the fifty million uninsured Americans, many who work every day but cannot afford health care! Happy Holidays!
No, they die because Government is too Big and Intrusive. If you can spew crap Fool, so can I.
The unaffordable aspects of Health Care are a direct result of Government meddling in the markets. So Fools prescribe more poison as the cure. Here is the only way we can get back to affordable health care, using the same free markets that made our country great many decades ago:
http://mises.org/freemarket_detail.aspx?control=279
DaveH, yes the “free Markets”, are those the ones that the health insurance industry is using to prevent us from obtaining insurance across state lines? Same one, that makes sure the costs are price fixed, so there is no competion amoung the companies who are strangling this country? How’s that free market working for ya??
Free Markets, is that the same one that has all the major Pharma companies receiving government subsidies? Same one, who doesn’t allow bidding by the government to get lower price on all the meds in the medicare system? Oh, that free market is working great for all of us.Give us more!!! Seems like it is socialism for the corporations and capitalism for the poor. That free market sucks as it functions under anti-trust laws that should have been repealed over 60 years ago.
I’m not on anyone’s ‘side’ here. I’m a Christian who believes in loving everyone, as Jesus taught us to. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.” This is the sum of everything, but I have to comment on how many people are spewing hatred at Foolpatrol without even taking the time to see the obviously intended irony in his screen name! Guys, he’s not saying he’s a fool, but that he’s patrolling for fools, and perhaps saying he’s found a few here! (If he’s a ‘he’, might be a ‘she’, but who cares). A lot of you need to step back a bit and actually read your whole New Testament before making such hateful statements! Bottom line? God’s heart is for the poor, but He doesn’t want them to stay poor! He puts people in rich countries not so they can just be rich and to hell with the poor folks, but so they can use the riches He gives them to serve and help the poor to break out of their poverty cycle through us being God’s Love to them…your neighbors…everyone in America, not just the pretty people with lots of cash and a nice condo. God wants you to help the homeless, the un-lovely, the prisoners who need redemption, basically everybody! Don’t believe me though, go look for yourselves.
steven and DaveH…Most people can’t control how much $$ they make. This country has never provided well paying jobs for everyone, capitalism never has, never will. Healthcare costs have gone through the roof w/ a lot of the huge increases going to high level execs. The cost of healthcare has outstripped many working people’s wages. It’s not that those people don’t work,it’s offensive to working people to say that, especially at Christmas!!
Eyes wide open….All the things you mention are not examples of free market capitalism but rather of government giving special privileges to some at the expense of others, in other words, government corruption. Get rid of all those things and a host of others and you might begin to approach having a free market capitalist economy in this country.
Question: How do monopolies promote free markets? Not everything that happens as a result of free human choice in the markets promotes the common good. Sometimes government has a moral obligation to break up companies that use their size and monopoly to harm the public. Other enlightened companies may use their size and monopoly to benefit the public. That is the way free market capitalism should and can work. These two types of mega sized companies should be treated differently, of course.
This person is absolutely correct in what the constitution says and the surpreme court is absloutely wrong in what it has done in this regard and the only way we the citizens can and must react is to ignore it all.. The schools have absolutely no right to stop Christmas music from being sung in public schools or for that matter does any government agency have the right to stop and religiouds function or decorations from being stipped on public praperty.. The constitutionis absolue in what is says about neither promotin or stopping religion It quite simply is against what is written we are free for the expression of what we believe in no matter who says we cannot.
James…what don’t you get?? The public schools are funded by gov’t money..taxpayer money. The constitution prevents an establishment of religion BY THE GOV’T. Xmas songs that are religious CAN NOT be part of school..all other songs can be. Private schools that take no PUBLIC money can pray and sing religious songs all they like. Public schools can’t. Simple enough??
I agree denniso – that is a great argument to get the government out of the school system!
No, you don’t get it. The government is us. The government money is our money. Taxes are legal theft. Just because government owns a building, it means we own it just as we now own car companies. Whatever the government pays for, American citizens own it because it’s our money that pays for it.
Denniso….According to the Founders, your interpretation of the Constitution is 100% incorrect. The Constitutional prohibition is not against Christianity in government schools, in Congress, in the presidency or any other part of government. It is against establishing a particular religious denomination as the official religion of the FEDERAL government. Jefferson’s “wall of separation” had nothing to do with it. Read “Ten Tortured Words” to see for yourself.
The states, by the way, are, according to the Constitution, free to do with religion as they each see fit. They can even establish a particular denomination as their state sanctioned religion if they so desire. At least two states had state sanctioned religions when the Constitution was ratified and kept them for a time afterward. None have had such in modern times, but it is not beyond the pale of future possibility. Texas could be Baptist and Louisiana could be Catholic and Massachusetts Pagan, for instance.
Personally, I favor amending the Constitution to require that all in government service (except for enlisted in the military) be professing Christians according to a standard set by a consortium of biblical theologians with Luke 9:23 as the basic, fundamental concept defining biblical salvation. Everyone else can be whatever they want to be, but public servants must constantly meet that biblical standard or be forced to find another line of work. Properly set up, that policy would enormously reform government and return it to what the Founders actually envisioned for us from the beginning. Had we not become such a Godless country, a nation totally unlike anything the Founders could possibly have imagined, such a reform would not be necessary.
On the other hand, ‘christmas’ is a thoroughly heathen holiday. The Savior YAHUSHUA was born during the feast of tabernacles, and it was Tammuz who was born at ‘christmas’. Those of us who try to follow scripture are mostly very negative about the trappings of this heathen holiday. You are right about the constitution, but mostly the ‘christians’ look more like the lions when I tell them they are not following the savior in their heathen traditions.
You are absolutely right. How terribly backward our times are as the scriptures warned they would be. The “Christians” fighting for their right to celebrate their heathen tradition. It saddens me. However, I try to remember that 10 or 12 years ago, I thought I was a Christian and I followed the heard and did all the traditions of men that made God’s work of no effect also. Thank you for your comment. Jesus said “feed my sheep” and you have found a way to feed them without smacking them on their little heads I think. That’s been my problem in the past.
I should have mentioned that the writer of this article is absolutely correct in his comments about the only authority that can make law, Congress, and the Supreme Court’s job of interpreting law…and finding for the plantiff or defendant in each case. They are not to be litigators or law makers…but I do also think that as a country, like so many times in the past, we are getting the Government that perhaps we deserve, according to the laws of sowing and reaping.
We as a nation have allowed the Supreme Court to legalize baby killing and raise up all sorts of abominations. We helped put into office compromising men who would appoint such ungodly people to the courts.
In addition, I apologize for the spelling errors. It’s the “herd” not “heard” and God’s “word”, not work, in the last comment.
We are to blame as a nation and we have to remember that the leaders we have, God has put into place for whatever reason and now we must submit to the authorities that we have, yes even the unreasonable ones as the scriptures explain.
Debbie…..Do you really think that Christians in Germany should have obeyed Hitler when he called for the extermination of Jews and Christians he hated? Should the Chinese Christians have gone along with Mao in the extermination of the millions he murdered for political reasons? Should Italian Catholics have gone along with the dictates of the wicked Mussolini? Should American Christians not resist the totalitarian policies of a morally degenerate Muslim illegal alien “president” who supports the murder of nearly fifty million innocent little babies in their mother’s wombs?
If God is like Jesus, then He must totally oppose the evil of our government and hold us responsible for doing the same. We must support good government that promotes our virtuous conscience, but resist as did Daniel when the government seeks the destruction of our nation and our faith.
I believe that God has told me that He wants to see the destruction of the wicked in American government today every bit as much as in Hitler’s or Mao’s or Pol Pot’s or Stalin’s yesteryear. Therefore, I pray daily for His will to be done in this matter. I use the principles of James 5:16 as my guide in imprecatory praying. We find examples of it in the book of Psalms and as invoked by Paul quoting Psalm 69.
The staggering problem is that Christians have never been taught imprecatory prayer. The church has become so weak minded that some cannot even imagine that it is indeed Christian and a necessary corollary of divine love. However, we need a vast army of prayer warriors praying down the wrath of God on these wicked destroyers in government and in our culture, depraved men and women seeking to eliminate all that is truly good from our lives.”…It is appropriate that we pray that Christ would vindicate his holy name and program by destroying the enemies of righteousness, just as he preserves those who love his name.”
John, you are correct about the real date of Jesus’ birth, however I think you face a very steep battle to get the true date accepted by most Christians who are used to celebrating in December, although I for one would love to see it happen.
The reason?
The closest we can get to the true date of Christ’s birth is September 11th, 3BC! Now THAT will shock some folks I’m sure!
But wouldn’t you rather reclaim that awful date and celebrate something so wonderful on it rather than sadly remember an attack by a bunch of islamic terrorists? I know I would.
And as Christians, who really cares about whether or not it’s a holiday or whether or not we give gifts? The real gift was Jesus, full of God’s Grace. Remove the crass commercialism from December and remember Christ on His actual birthday!
AMEN!
Call it what it is “MERRY CHRISTMAS”. Those that are offended by it are not required to celebrate it. It is my God given right and my right as a free american to celebrate and call it Christmas.God Bless the USA!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah! God Bless the entire world, no exceptions!
Great article, those that do nothing to stand up for their religious rights are only helping the minority. We need our country back and stop these minorities from having their way. We also have rights.
Hallelujah and Amen! Couldn’t agree more. Merry Christmas-es to all, and to all a good flippin night.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah to you also!
yeah, whatever. Say what you want but it’s still CHRISTmas. We know it’s not exactly on the 25th but at that time, THAT was the day chosen to worship the birth of CHRIST. It is my right to say MERRY CHRISTMAS if I so desire. I should not have to say (or except) Happy holiday. I usually say, “which holiday, Halloween?” NO THANKS, don’t try to change my MERRY CHRISTMAS. I don’t buy goods from stores that have xmas in their windows or newspaper ads. MERRY CHRISTMAS .
Dear Sir:
I vote for the NATIONAL CAMPAIGN! Where do I sign up? I am saying MERRY CHRISTMAS. I am a switchboard operator and many who are calling at this time of year wish me a MERRY CHRISTMAS. That opens the door for me because my company is kind of politically correct. Planing to put the HOLY FAMILY on my lawn also.
regards
annie m.
/Right on Chip, The Political Correct zealots want to control everything. To tell someone they cant say Merry Christmas, is limiting their Freedom of Speech.
Christians rise up and do not be intimidated by these people. We need to speak out and not let the Government do as they wish, To deny the singing of Rudolf, or any other songs to children is wrong, I suppose they would rather haave the children out on the streets stealing or destroying property.
Our country was founded on Religious principals and Freedom also read the Constution.
Christy A. Weirick
“I suppose they would rather haave the children out on the streets stealing or destroying property”.
It sure looks that way doesn’t it Christy? For sure the government isn’t setting a very good example by stealing the citizens money.
Christy,
there are quite a few employers out there that are holding a firing over the employees head and telling them NOT TO SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Well I for one will say Merry Christmas till they tell me that their employer won’t let them say it them I will look up the manager, chew him out as I tell him to refund my money and keep his merchandise, themn I will find the web page for them and tell them that they lost a sale today and ALL my business in the future!! It’s that part where they tell the employees that they CAN’T say it that I’ll kick up a fuss about!!! That IS against our constitutional rights!!!
As long as you don’t require me to put some plastic junk on my lawn, go right ahead. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
The resident troll has spoken. Have yourself a wonderful Hanukah.
Chip, you are absolutely right and you have said it very well. Even though I am not a Christian, I have never felt offended by some one saying Merry Christmas, that is because I believe that the person wishing me Merry Christmas says it truly believing in his or her God.
Well, Thank God for you dear soul! And a Merry Christmas to you!
It’s too bad that the narrow-minded, religious-hating few have forgotten that our Founding Fathers and their Christian-based beliefs that the United States Constitution was founded on have allowed all religions and ethnicities to flourish. This is yet another example of political correctness run amok. Merry Christmas!
Nice Article Chip.
I would like to add that one of the benefits of states going their own way is what I have heard referred to as the “fishbowl effect”. That is, we as citizens of other states can observe the effects of those unique laws. If we see that the laws are failures, we can work extra hard to stop their implementation in our own states, or vice versa.
That’s why the Liberals tend to go straight to the Federal Government for their desired laws. They don’t want people to learn how mistaken their pet controls are.
At the end of the day we remember that we are more and more being told what we can or cannot do by a few people who actually indulge in such devious rhetoric that they become more and more ridiculous and irrelevant, since their sincerity does not match their rhetoric – words are meaningless when uttered by those who are not intent in following through on those words.
They can all go and do whatever it is that they do and…… the rest of us? Well we can just have a great Christmas and ignore them – they don’t know what they are all about anyway! What else is there that they want from us?
Thank you, Chip, for speaking the truth! Well said. America has been a great country because it was founded upon Biblical truths. As we forsake those truths, we are no longer “great.” May God grant us the courage and the wisdom so stand, as our forefathers did, against the evil tyranny that threatens to destroy our freedoms. Wishing you a Merry Christmas!
Thanks for another nice article – Merry Christmas -
Seems a bit ironic that the libs and atheists who want to destroy religion in our county don’t seem to mind taking the days off during the Christmas holidays. Since they don’t believe we should celebrate Christmas shouldn’t they be at work on the 25th? Not going to happen. We need to start with the Congress, followed by the not-so-supreme court and explain how the Constitution is supposed to really work and that they can’t just pick and choose the laws that are applicable to their agenda. Sign me up for the National Campaign.
Allen,
Not all athiests want to interfere in your religious choices.
And alll right wingers want to impose their values or lack thereof on others. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
No, true believers just want to be let alone to celebrate as we always have. If you don’t want to participate, that’s your choice. If merchants want our money, they should recognize what it is we’re celebrating. Right now it’s Hannakuh for those of the Jewish faith. I wish them well.
What holiday do the atheists celebrate? Fourth of July? Labor Day? Every other day? Go to it.
You have to be kidding. I’ve never has a right-winger impose anything on me. The Liberals on the other hand want to force me to do things their way using the Government as their bully boys.
That’s because they think you are one of them…Lol. Merry Xmas.
I am a sales clerk at a bargain outlet and we are not banned from saying Merry Christmas, I say it. What is so wrong about saying it. People need to realizae what Christmas is about and stop bitching abouat what to say and not to say
this is the vault of voters ,i have been voting for all politians that can not stand on one side have nobody ever seen a politian take a stand i have not they change thier votes on every issue and know i see politians sending out junk mail saying and begging for you to send money to see how much money can be donated to law makers if you want this law in your favor donate they vote on money donation
look at the politians changing thier votes on illegal immargration
and know look at goverment take over and know look and watch for health care these politians want to own this country instead of the people [and i wonder if finacing this country to other countries the indian peace treaty was to be notified i wonder if it was back in 2004
That’s what’s wrong with the so-called moderates. They’re fence sitters, going in whatever direction the wind blows.
Tell it like it is and call it as you see it!! DAMN political correctness, there’s NOTHING correct about it!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, TO ALL!!
IF YOU are offended, so be it, that’s YOUR problem!! WHY should WE be offended by non-believers????
I don’t care that you’re a heathen, but don’t expect the majority to lower themselves to your level!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, TO ALL!!
Hey, where’s all that Christian charity? Why are you calling strangers heatherns? Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
foolpatrol,
you are well named as only a fool repeats the same action or phrase and expects the outcome to be different!!!!
Joe, he’s making a point. Which of course you don’t see.
there is no point to what he is saying. Merry Christmas.
When I was a young boy I had a girlfriend whose family was jewish. My family on the otherhand was southern baptist, we celibrated christmas and they celibrated haunicha there was never a conflict, not once did we say you should not celibrate haunicha and not once did they say we should not celibrate christmas. Our religions did not keep us apart. I dont believe that the seperation of church and state fanaticisom has anything to do with religion its about control. I think religion on all sides are suffering over this decision. Growing up in the 50s and 60s we pledged our alegence to our flag and country at the beginning of school every morning after which we said a prayer. Our teachers were not preachers we were taught that our churches were in our hearts and we prayed to our personal God. I think the govt and powers to be felt religion was becoming to powerfull so they had to put a stop to it. Instead of just saying no more prayer since this would sound to much like communisum they provoked various reliogens with propoganda to cause a conflict then conviently stepped in and made an interpritation of the constitution for the seperation of church and state which Chip in the simplest terms possible had proven it to be a lie. I cant believe that We The People are allowing this to happen. Its kind of like that little saying I hear sometimes and I never can get the exact wording right so Ill just give you the jist of it they came for the ?and I said nothing they came for the ? and I said nothing they came for the ? and I said nothing then they came for me and there was no one left to speak. Thats what their counting on people no one left to speak. Iam not a bible thumper people I have my god and we talk, so dont take this as a religious rant. Iam an american who have a number of famous ancestors who gave their lives for this great country. Untill we stand up and regain control of our country its only going to get worse. They are rapeing and ravgeing our constitution daily to gain more control over us so as chip says keep your powder dry and ill say they will pry my guns out of my cold dead hands. GOG BLESS AMERICA.
God Bless the entire world, no exceptions! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
Thank you, same to you.
Now fool is getting it.
Yes Merry Christmas too all!
I’m so sorry for you. God does NOT bless the whole world. God does NOT bless sin. Offending a Holy God does not constitute blessing. You are exactly what your title says: A FOOL!
Laura, your anger is showing! How about this? I heard Graham Cooke say this recently: “In this world there are Christians and pre-Christians, nothing else. They may call themselves something else, but that doesn’t matter. The fact is, Jesus died and rose again as a sacrifice ‘once for all’, that’s ALL, not just those who have already accepted Him.” Graham said it’s like when the bank sends you a new credit card. It’s real, it has all the correct authority, but it won’t work fully until the owner officially accepts it by signing the back and having their PIN added to it. Likewise with pre-Christians. They are Christians in everything but their personal acknowledgment of it and official acceptance of what has already been achieved for them by Jesus. Many may never accept Him, but it doesn’t change what Jesus did for them. Therefore our job as those who have already ‘officially’ accepted our status in Christ, is not to rail against folks about ‘blessing or no blessing’, but to show them the love and grace of the Father through Jesus Christ His Son at this time when we choose to remember His birth. Sorry this is a bit ‘sermony’, but it’s the truth. Our job is not to fight sin, that’s God’s responsibility; He’s way good at it and He can see the bigger picture. Our job is to call His Grace down to earth, so everyone can see a radiant picture of God in us.
Wow! Yours is one of very few Christian responses I’ve ever seen in this forum. The common thread is usually all who do not agree with writers’ perspectives are wrong, liberal, nonChristian, unAmerican and evil. God Bless you as you share His spirit by your example.
Peter, well said. Spoken like a true Christian. God Bless YOU!!
Peter….If the Bible is your standard in defining such things, there are only Christians and non-Christians. God takes care of His followers, and Satan takes care of his. And they are definitely not destined for the same place in eternity. According to those who have been there and returned, Satan’s abode is as far from being like heaven as you could possibly imagine. Jesus said that the way to hell is wide and many there be that go therein, and narrow the way to heaven and few there be that go therein. There is no basis for Universalism in the Bible.
Those who do not hate the morally bad cannot also love the morally good. We must, therefore, hate moral evil in order to love virtue. God sets the example by hating wicked people and loving virtuous people. Being virtuous Himself, how could He do otherwise? And so must His followers do who are 100% virtuous because of their faith commitment (Luke 9:23).
@ Laura
“For God so Loved the WORLD That He Gave His Only Begotten Son”. God Bless the entire WORLD, NO EXCEPTIONS! You’re one MAD Sista, Laura!
Laura, you speak like a pseudo Christian. Embrace Jesus and just for one day try not to judge or impose your standards or religious sect on others. The Bible doesn’t say which type/denomination of Christians are the chosen. It doesn’t say that the Baptists are the chosen ones, or the Mormons are the chosen ones, or the Catholics are the chosen ones. It talks about Christians, those who accept Christ. It is sad that you can only accept those of your own religious sect, but Jesus didn’t delineate between the Christians.
Seems to me that Americans are going to have to practice civil disobediance in order to maintain ordinary traditions, if you are easily intimadated I suppose this won’t work for you but I am a American by birth and my traditions run deep. The ones I like best is my dislike of expensive government to run my life and a bureaucrat at any level that’s overpaid.
Just remember your heritage and what it cost.
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year!
Christmas is A American time of the year.Faith is all so part of it and all ways shouls be.To those that don’t like it ,Just set back and let the rest of us have fun with family and friends.A time that all of us in God can have a little peace in are life. The one’s that don’t like it can go to hell.
It seems like the people in America have gone crazy. How do they think that we get these Holidays that they want to get get these paid Holidays. Jesus is the reason for CHRISTMAS. Jesus is The reason for GOOD FRIDAY. Jesus is the reason for EASTER. And Jesus is the reason we live & breath. They will show their authority down here for a little while, But they will NEVER DO AWAY WITH JESUS. He Is REAL & our NATION better turn back to GOD for he is the REASON that AMERICA has prospered anyway. HE IS THE REASON FOR THESE HOLIDAYS. So Have A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL. Lorene in Ohio
There is no “War on Christmas”, there never has been. People are free to celebrate or not depending on their personal beliefs. There are a few restrictions concerning public property, but considering all of the other places where celebrations and ornamentation can take place, why are people like you so worried about what happens in a public place? Would you defend Hindu’s putting up ornamentation in the Town Square, or is this only nativity scenes? You can celebrate how you like with friends ands “enemies”, but give this old saw a rest, you do not speak for everyone. Think about what Christmas signifies…Goodwill, Tolerance and Peace. Quit acting like you are oppressed, you are not, what you are doing is oppressing others.
As you say bob there are plenty of places to celibrate and decorate but make no misake the places are fewer than they were yesterday and they will be even fewer tomorrow. There is an attack on our way of life , its ongoing and growing every day. This is not about a war on christmas its about a war on your freedom, dont confuse the issue.I live in the great state of Kentucky a commonwealth state where we still proudly display the Ten Commandments and where my grand daughters still pray in school and pledge their allegence to the flag.If you still think this is simply about a war on christmas you need to get out more.
Very well put Lee.
c. lEE, IT is about upholding the Constitution for everyone, not just the Christians.
I dont think this is just a christian thing its about all of us however we were in a discussion about christmas so I added my views just as you have. If you have read any of my earlier post you would know Iam not a bible thumper. I do believe in God and I was raised Southern Baptist. I respect all non zeloit non radical religion. So as you pointed out this is about all of us, hence my little quote about they came for the various groups and I said nothing then they came fore me and there was no one left to speak so I get it. Now that we have made that clear we can move on but this is just another example of how we keep correcting one another and squabiling about our own agenda and we have no time left to address the real problems, so why dont we get over ourselves and move forward.
A couple of years ago there was news about people who were being fired for telling customers, “God blees you” or “Merry Christmas”.
Hey, for those of you who don’t support unions and strong labor movements, employers can fire for any reason or no reason at all as long as it is not for an illegal reason or against public policy. You can’t have it both ways. Right wingers want all the power vested in business but don’t want to live with the consequences. FYI A Christian worker demonstraits his/her faith by their work ethic and committment to quality work; not by telling customers, “God Bless You.” Bless them by doing what you are hired to do!
Ahh, so you’re a Union supporter. That explains a lot.
You’re not. That explains a lot too.
Wow! Another sane, thinking, reasonable, person expressing himself in this forum! Thank God!
we have to stop worring about offending people who offend us by not alowing us to celibrate in our own way…maybe its time to let them know how offended we are by their actions……MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR..
Exactly who stops you fron celebrating in your own way Al? Turn off Fox and pick up a book!
Christmas attacks are fictional. Sure:

watch FOX NEWS and SEE the truth. Lefts don’t want to know the truth. Merry Christmas america.
MERRY CHRISTMAS IN JESUS NAME
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah to you Lila!
Merry Christmans to all.
I find it offensive when I am “greeted” with “Happy Holiday” when we are sharing presents at the “Giving Tree”. I could be fired for saying “Merry Christmas” at my work because someone may be offended. I wish everyone “Merry Christmas!” anyway.
P.S. I am Jewish
As the war on Christmas continues, I want to share what my family has recently learned from the Jewish people who believe Jesus is our Lord and Savior. We have come to discover in the Hebrew roots of our Christian faith that Jesus’s /Yeshua’s first coming was fulfilled in the first 4 of the biblical holy days detailed in Leviticus. He was crucified on Passover / Pesach (because He was the Lamb whose blood atoned for our sin), buried on the Feast of Unleavened Bread (because He was without sin), rose on the Feast of First Fruits (because He was the First Fruit of this earth to rise), and His Holy Spirit was poured out on Shavuot / Pentecost. Pastor Mark Biltz reveals His birth through scripture to occur on Feast of Tabernacles / Succot in these videos – http://www.elshaddaiministries.us/audio/more/birthday.html . Although Hanukkah is not a biblical holiday, it is rooted in the historical event of the revolution of the Jews against assimilation at the hand of Antiochus Epiphanes in 167 BCE. It is deemed the Festival of Lights as their one day’s worth of oil to light the menorah miraculously lasted the 8 full days to rededicate their Temple , hence the Festival of Lights. We know Yeshua (Jesus) and his disciples acknowledged and observed this holy day since it is mentioned in John 10:22-23 “And it was at Jerusalem the Feast of the Dedication, and it was winter. And Yeshua (Jesus) walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch.” Many believe that our Messiah, the “light of the world,” was conceived on the Festival of Lights—Hanukkah. Starting at Hanukkah, which begins on Kislev 25 and continues for eight days, and counting through the 40 weeks of Miriam’s (Mary’s) pregnancy, one arrives at the precise time of the birth of Yeshua at the Feast of Tabernacles, the celebration of God taking up residence with His people.
To further solidify the power and magnitude of the Feasts of the Lord, the tetrad, of 4 blood red moons, lunar eclipses, occurred in 1948 on Passover and Succot, and 1949 on Passover and Succot, following the establishment of Israel in a day (Ezekiel 37:21, Isaiah 66:8). Additionally, the next following tetrad occurred in 1967 on Passover and Succot and in 1968 on Passover and Succot, following the 6 day war in which Israel took back Jerusalem (Luke 21:24). Genesis 1:14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to separate the day from the night; and let them be for SIGNS and for seasons (Hebrew: mowedah correctly translated as APPOINTED TIMES) and for days and years.
Every Messianic Jewish congregation out there is aware of these scriptural truths, and many share the traditions of the Feasts with their neighboring Christian churches, however, the mindset of the Jewish people is different than the Christians in terms of witnessing these truths primarily due to the historical persecution and personal ridicule by un-believing Jewish people (which sadly, many times is their own family).
Yeshua’s (Jesus’s) last prayer that we would become one in Him as He is one in the Father (John 17:20 -26), will be answered before He comes again. Jew and Gentile become one (Galatians 3:28 ), the one new man (Ephesians 2:15 ), the two sticks become one (Ezekiel 37:16-20). Colossians 2:16-17 states “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; and the body is of Christ.” Throughout scripture the role of Israel is to be a light to the nations (Isaiah 42:6-7, Isaiah 49:6) and the role of the gentile is to provoke them to jealousy (Romans 11:10-12). Today Christianity has over 26,000 different denominations while Judaism has around 7. It is obvious the child has moved far away from the parent, like the prodigal son, but these are the days of his return (Luke 15:11 -32), where we interestingly see the older son provoked to jealousy.
Lastly, I personally feel compelled to share these blessing as Hosea 4:6 states “you will perish for a lack of knowledge” and I know that is not His plan for His faithful bride. There was the worldwide witnessing of the message that Yeshua / Jesus is Lord and Savior, and now there is witnessing to the believers, that our Hebrew roots lead us back to know Him better, and become One in Him. Let this be the season and the year to begin seeking true UNITY in Messiah Yeshua, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. It is His last and final prayer for us.
Blessings and Shalom in the name of Yeshua HaMasiach
I am not a Christian, but I do celebrate Christmas. I enjoy the colors, the happiness the season brings, and if I want to say “Merry Christmas,” I shall! If someone objects, he can kiss my grits! The same ones who are trying to do away with Christmas are also trying to take away our Pledge of Allegiance, our National Anthem, our rights as Americans (i.e.: The Second Amendment, and anything else they feel we shouldn’t have. Nor do I have any problem with opening a forum such as a graduation ceremony or even a football game with a prayer, that is their business. If those people feel it makes them better, then hop to it. I am fed up with all of those who make war on things some of the rest of us enjoy. They must be terribly miserable people.
I agree, The same ones who (word removed) about Christmas want to deny healthcare to all God’s children. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
PAY FOR YOUR OWN DAMN HEALTH CARE AND GET OFF THE GRAVY TRAIN!! GET OUT OF THIS COUNTRY YOU TREASONER.
Laura,
That’s a mean, nasty, un-Christian reply! Remember, “defend the poor and the fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and the needy?” PSALMS 82:3.
18,000 AMERICANS DIE every year due to lack of health insurance. You can not possibly be so MAD that this fact doesn’t matter, can you?
Laura, not a good example of a Christian. Hard to believe that you have been saved with such anger in your heart, especially at this time of year… God Bless you, may you feel Jesus in your soul.
yeah, cut medicare to give to these aliens so the poor who can’t even afford to live on medicare can suffer after they worked all their lives to pay for it just to have it taken away from them and give it to other people who won’t even try to find a job. yeah, that’s classy. Merry Christmas.
Dear Fool on patrol…..We conservatives are not interested in denying poor people medical coverage. But we are interested in solving the health care problem without bankrupting our nation. That outcome would be a disaster for the poor. The rest of us could go to another country for health care, but not the poor unless you consider Mexico a good place to find a doctor. I don’t.
If our country were to allow medical service to function on the basis of free market capitalism, alternative medicine could compete with alopathic medicine as measured by effectiveness and price. I can guarantee you that alternative medicine would win on both counts. That alone would bring down the cost of medical treatment to levels that even poor people could afford.
Add into the mix a training program to teach everyone how to prevent disease using proper exercise and food supplements and maintain their bodies in good health by managing stress and taking a positive outlook on life, and you will soon develop a nation of freakishly healthy people who rarely need a doctor for anything nor would they need health insurance. I, for instance, got along entirely without it until Medicare kicked in and I have had only one minor occasion to use that.
I totally agree! Christmas is my favorite NATIONAL holiday. Why? Because for three or four weeks everybody acts as if they were Jewish! They love their neighbors and do not do unto others that which is distasteful to them.*
So, let me wish you a very happy Chanuchah, or if you prefer, a merry Christmas, or a pleasant Solstice, or whatever you celebrate. And if you should greet me with any of the forgoing I will translate it into the version I prefer and feel honored.
PEACE on Earth and goodwill to all in our one nation under God, and let us say AMEN.
*R. Hillel’s version stated 2000 years ago.
Chip, great article! I have been boycotting all the businesses in my area that do not promote CHRISTMAS. The majority of Americans call themselves Christians, but will not stand up for what Christ and the Bible teaches. Christ was not a wimp; he would have stood up against such prejudice not role over. Christ taught to confront evil, not to roll over and let evil have its way. Also I am working towards a boycott of all the sponsors of MSM news programs because of their failure to seek truth and their prejudice towards the majority of those who have moral standards and principles based upon Judo-Christian beliefs. Many of my friends, coworkers and myself are tired of a minority of non-believers using ignorance and fear to destroy our constitution and country. Time we take action and hit these left leaning businesses and advertizers where it hurts in their pocket book, especially during this Christmas season.
I agree.
I agree! Hit ‘em in the pocketbook and give them the only free ride they deserve, a ride right out of this country and it’s freedom to be happy!
Ther you go again, Laura. You’re MAD!
God gave her the right to live the way she chooses. If she is mad, so be it. Unless they take that away from her too. Merry Christmas
Ye, I say Christmas. If the people don’t want to celebrate Christmas that is find. I can’t understand why minorities are making the rules for this country. I thought it was majority rules when votes are counted. If the minorities are making the rules then something is wrong with the American people who don’t seem to care for anything but their own personal area.
Thanks
Nancy
In my short 50 years, it appears that not only are our traditions being dismanteled, but our very collective unconscious. In the spirit of our forefathers, I say Merry Christmas. I agree with this excellent article, and thank God I live in a Nation where I can still say this!
Our traditions and laws were dismantled when the former President engaged in torture, established secret prisons, spyed on American citizens and disregarded the Constitution! Where were all the Christians (me included) who didn’t call the war criminal out and hold him accountable? Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
You are NOT a Christian. You are ignorant. NOT all are God’s children. YOU are a child of WRATH. The Bible says to “call it like it is”. And, YOU are a child of WRATH. Merry Christmas, CRIMINAL.
@ Laura
Isn’t it the acceptance of Christ that determines who is Christian? Since we know them by their fruits, and yours certainly haven’t been Christ like, I could question your faith, Laura. I won’t. I do warn you to check yourself. You’re so MAD that you are bordering on insane!
our torture wasn’t that bad. They had a chance to speak to stop it. Would you rather see them cut off heads while alive with a machete as americans are? or the skin torn off while they’re still alive? what are you thinking? never mind.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holy Days Chip,In my opinion they both work. I also feel Seasons Greetings works well. One of my personal favorites is “Natalis Solis Invicti” (the birth of the unconquerable sun) December 25th being the first noticeably longer day after Winter Solstice on December 21st. Winter Solstice is after all part of the Pagan ritual that became the Holy Day celebrated currently.
So, use whatever Seasonal greeting you like, they all work.
Happy Winter Solstice to All!
Dear Mr. Wood & Others on your Site–The American Public is VERY VERY FICKLE–They tend now days to go along with what ever the biggest majority does–good or bad–Just take for Instance the Sticking Mr. Obama in the White House–Of course The Black caucus & the Millionaires of the NDC was the Biggest factor in Obamaisms–Along with The Crocked Federal Reserve Bank!!Christmas& newyears-Is the biggest targets of Anti religious groups–The Usa was really formed by religion-It is now Very difficult to Buy a Christmas card with Merry Christmas& Or Happy new Years on it!!Tndc-& Obama better Wise up–The True Americans of The USA–Will not be pushed over the Edge–A big Revolt is Coming Very soon!!
FYI It’s the TRUE Americans who are tired of right wingers seeking to divide Americans! God Bless President Obama and his beautiful family. Keep him safe always and help to move his legislative agenda forward. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
yeah, Okay. May God forgive him. People are calling him Osama instead of Obama. Get out the shoes. I wish him well but he’s gotta be impeached.
I have really been surprised and happy as I call people on the phone
It seems that a change may be coming on, when I say Merry Christmas,
almost everyone responds in like manner. Also I noticed that no one
left a dissenting reply. Praise God From Whom ALL Blessings Flow
In Jesus Name, Dot & Bill
Yes, praise God. God bless the people of the entire world, no exceptions! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
Hey, Foolpatrol. Happy April Fool’s Day to you!
That’s the one I missed, the true holiday for atheists.
American Citizen,
I don’t know if you forgot it but it has GOT to be fool patrols absolute favorite!!!!!!!!
LOL! Yes, we certainly will all partake in the heathen’s holiday, April Fools Day. I can’t wait!
I havent been on here a long time. Is foolpatrol really an athiest.
Don’t know. But he is a Fool. Have you ever noticed that the most ignorant people are the ones who want to force their ways on you?
C Lee, nope he isn’t but DaveH is.
Let’s not go overboard. What song pervades this “holiday” season? That’s right, and everyone of us, no matter our background, sings and loves the words and music written by a Russsian Jewish immigrant, the first line of which, as we all know, is “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas.” So I say, cool it, especially during this holiday season for all.
i want to say you must keep you faith despit every thing keep your good traditions as god and christ had taught you and merry christmass happy new year thanks
God and Christ didn’t teach traditions. Christ teaches love, mercy and compassion for all, no exceptions. Now that’s the true spirit of the season, no traditions. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!
In Jesus time as now, the Jews had their own tradition which Jesus practiced.
YOU are seriously mistaken, but being the fool that you are, we expect no more of you. You must not have read when Jesus asked “And why do you trangress against God with your traditions?”. YOU are a SINNER. GOD HAS EXCEPTIONS, IT’S CALLED NO BLESSING FOR SIN. You’re work is like FILTHY RAGS – or bloody tampons – IN HIS FACE. You make God sick.
MAD! MAD! MAD! Certifiablly MAD!
Laura, if you are truly a Christian, your posts are very unChristlike.
Laura, you are the one who is disgusting. We don’t need your kind of descriptions.
Raghad, Merry Christmas to you too and have a blessed New Year!
Good job on the article. I’am getting tired of this politicaly correct business. When someone wishes you a Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah it is respect and joy for our beliefs which we are passing on. IS THIS NOT WHAT WE ARE ALL ABOUT, FREEDOM ?????
n GOD we trust
God bless America
Merry Christmas
Happy Hanukkah
Happy New Year
What is wrong with saying ‘Happy Holidays’? It is a nice, inclusive way to greet people during the time when there are a lot of celebrations going on. You cannot usually tell which religion a given person follows and this is a nice way to be friendly. What are you all so angry about? Sounds like the reason for your season is to spew some more hate. Lighten up!
Katherine,
No Sweetheart, we leave the spewing of hatred to you guys. By default you guys consistently spew the hate & race cards.
Merry Christmas Sweetheart!
Actually some of the reasons to celebrate this season, Christmas, are too share love and to remember and give thanks to Jesus Christ our lord and savior.
Amen.
John, just where did she mention race in her comments? You people generalize and fabricate more than children do. She is right, it is right in front of all, these posts that are ugly and hateful towards others. Many Christian hypocrites on this site.
What’s with you people always playing the race card.
Merry Christmas and Happy Kwanza to you.
Left wing radicals. Do I need to spell everything out for you people?
It seems you’re the one looking at the color of O’s skin. It’s his policies we are against.
Thank you American. No one on this site plays the race card.
They do.
It’s Obama’s policies, ideologies, ineptness, lack of integrity…
Well what can I say? Facts are facts.
Merry Christmas American!
Well said american, the problem is not Mr. Obamas race its his beliefs his policies and the fact that he has no legal right to be President Of These Great United States Of America. GOD BLESS AMEERICA GOD BLESS YOU ALL. AND MERRY CHRISTMAS.
President Obama has every right to be President. He is also entitled to the respect and honor that comes with his office! He is a natural born American citizen, over the age of 35, elected by the MAJORITY of the American people! In addition, he is qualified! Put the meth pipe down! Happy Holidays!
Wow man ( and I use the term man loosley) thats how you respond to someone elses oppionon. First off prove hes qualified legally or otherwise, secondly I didnt get personal with you so show me the same consideration. I dont do meth and I resent the accuzation. Iam also not the type to turn the other cheeck so keep your childish remarks to yourself their not funny
There’s NOTHING wrong with saying “Happy Holidays.” But then, there’s nothing wrong with “Merry Christmas” either, but there are those who want to stop anyone and everyone from saying “Merry Christmas.” THAT’s what’s wrong with this picture!
Nobody wants to stop anybody from saying anything. When you’re working, you follow the rules set by your employer or get another job! Smart employers understand that their customer base consists of individuals of different religions. That’s what makes America great, we don’t all have to walk in lock step. On our own time, so say and do as we please! Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanza!
There is nothing wrong with saying happy holidays but your missing the point next the govt could deem that an offensive statement and you wouldnt be able to say it. Its not that you can say anything its what you cant say, a simple statement of Merry Christmas. Thats what was said for as long as I can remember and what was said as far back as the civil war in letters Ive read written by Robert E. Lee a member of my family. So how is it that our traditions dating way back can just be a forbidden fruit to apease a few.
I have sent a copy of the first amendment to every media outlet I could over the last five years and to every congress and senate member. I have posted on every blog since the Tea Party and all the other freedom groups started with no results. I have called the people to demand the impeachment of judges who misuse there Constitutional powers and have tried to get all Christians to start a class action lawsuit against the court and the ACLU with no takers. Here is something most people don’t know about the ACLU. Most of the time when they take things such as the crosses they just ordered removed they do not have a client so guess who pays their fees. We do!
Thats right, we the taxpayers pay them to sue to remove our Constitutional rights. I have just posted on several sites that when we vote these crooks out of office we need to abolish payments to the ACLU and the EPA which is making laws and threatening our congress and senate to pass laws or they will and they won’t like there laws.
They both need to go!
Way to go, Deanna!!! I have just realized within the past year, where these groups are getting all their money … it is from us, the taxpayers. DE-FUND EPA & ACLU (then disbar every attorney, judge, who ever worked for them)!
Oh, and Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night! Praise God for his Son, Jesus Christ, and the Judeo-Christian principles America was founded upon.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!!!
Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings!!
there wouldn’t be a problem if after 2000 years there still is no empirical evidence that the christmas story is nothing more that a myth and we don’t celebrate Zeus or Osiris, do we? by perpetuating and flaunting the lie you separate humanity and build walls up that keep other nationalities and religions from participating as one global family, it’s bigotry to the highest order! include other gods in the mix or quit whining like spoiled children over something you’re too frightened to investigate which would explain your child-like insistence. just get over it and grow up. there never has been a jesus and pushing a roman propaganda tool to dominate the world hardly gives you any credibility. learn the truth, read a book, set yourself free of lies and silly bickering. we have bigger fish to fry! take a lesson from our fore fathers and have the common sense to seperate the institution, government, public domain from your personal proclivities. we should be past this by now!
Historically, you won’t find a lot of what’s in the bible because people didn’t keep records such as they do now. But happenings were handed down word of mouth until they were finally written down. According to tradition, the story of Jesus’ birth was supposedly told to St. Luke by Mary, Jesus’ mother.
But some of what is there is historical such as what was happening in the skies at that time as well as politically.
Oh Roger, how sadly mistaken you are! Many many historical facts remain verifying the existence of Jesus. You are at complete liberty as to how you deal with that information, but if I were you, I would be EXTREMELY careful about how I describe Jesus, simply because, by calling the Son of God a myth, you are inviting even more ridicule on yourself.
Why? Very simple; as an obvious atheist, I can safely assume you believe in the fairy story that is Darwinian evolution? Thought so. By now your cheeks are probably getting red and you’re about to hit ‘Reply’, but hold on a minute buddy. Consider this…since the time of Darwin until now…over 150 years of extremely sophisticated scientific research, especially in the area of palaentology (fossils, in case you haven’t read any books on the subject), not one fossil of a confirmed transitional species of any variety has ever been discovered. Remember the Piltdown Man? Fake. They’re all fake or not to be found. But don’t believe me. Go do your own research.
But wouldn’t you think that if Darwin’s fairy story was true, and with so many species to study throughout the world, that just one fossil could be shown to be transitional between species?
Nah-ah fella, sorry. You lose.
Like it or not, there’s more proof that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, than there is for the Darwinian theory.
Why dont you make that same speech to the almighty god when he judges you one day. That day will be sooner than you may think. Id like to be next in line behind you when that day comes so I can watch you as you grobble for forgiveness as you most certanly will grobble big guy. You sound like you think you have all the answers, however there is only one answer. Hopefully you and your arrogance will figure that out before its to late, and you know brother its not too late yet. So God Bless You.
Personally I do not care either way about the holiday celebrations, but I do have one question. If a person does a little search on the net you can see that the christmas, easter and other celebrations are based on pagan celebrations, one which predates Christ by about 350 years and has nothing at all to do with Christ.
During Roman times some of these holidays were overlapped with the christian holidays and changed / distorted into something else which is what the masses now keep as christian.
What I do not understand is how a supposed god fearing country blindly keeps these holidays when in fact it should be the pagan nation who is offended that the christians are keeping their rituals.
In God we trust is a good motto, and one that this nation should fight to keep, not some adapted twist that has been adopted today.
Kim, very informative. God Bless YOU!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS
THANK GOD FOR HIS SON
MERRY CHRISTMAS
BABY JESUS
THANK YOU FOR TAKING CARE OF US THIS FAR
PLEASE CONTINUE TO KEEP YOUR HAND ON US
WE NEED YOU AND YOUR GUIDANCE
NOW, MORE THAN EVER.
Amen.
How angry can one get…I have endured enough of the Leftist agenda…I have done nothing about it and I am sick of not taking action…we need to get organized, grow a set, and take back our Founding Principles…what about organizing local chapters of a central organization.
Merry Christmas!!!
I’m glad to see America waking up. I have been fighting a lonely battle against Big Government for 30 years. I can use the help.
I agree!! We all need to get together, somehow, and grab ahold of the Big Government by their throats and tell them they are in their place BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE!!
I say somehow, because I don’t want to put my telephone number here to be called by haters, and I don’t want to put my email here for hate mail. But somehow, we all need to get together on one conference call, thanks to technology, and spew a bit of our injustice being done on our rights.
@ Laura
It appears to be you who is spewing the hatred, Laura. I’ll pray for you.
Chip, You must have the IQ of room temperature! Anyone who has lived as long as you have, should know that the fairy dust of belief systems are going to offend non-believers, which now comprise close to a 44 percentile of this country’s population, and in the sixty to seventy percentile of the world population. To suggest that a “christian ideology”, along with its “appropriate salutations” should be promoted by government is not only offensive to a large group of people, but goes against the very statement promoted by the writers of the Constitution. Non-belief in a god or institutionalized religion is as much “a right” as is thinking a virgin can become pregnant and give birth without losing virginity (an absolute contradiction of terms). Pushing your agenda onto those who disagree with your ideology is morally wrong. Compaaring nonbelievers with those who “want our country back” is mixing oranges and apples, and thus makes the O’Reilly’s, Beck’s, and Wood’s the delusionists. The season is, and should be, one of joyful hope for a better world……. you shouldn’t attempt to bash people because they do not share “your belief system”, or “your salutation”, with angry dribble!!! So happy holiday season, Chip, and may you get that colorful tie who have always wanted…..
As usual a Liberal chooses to use personal attacks and made-up facts:
A 2007 Gallup poll which asked the question
“Which of the following statements comes closest to your belief about God: you believe in God, you don’t believe in God but you do believe in a universal spirit or higher power, or you don’t believe in either?”
showed that 78% believed in God, 14% in “A universal spirit or higher power”, 7% answering “neither”, and 1% unsure.[5]
http://www.gallup.com/video/27886/Belief-God.aspx
Here is a site that gives a world estimate of non-believers:
http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html
Interesting pie chart Dave. The Christians are worried about a war on Christmas? Just wait. Did you notice that the second largest religious belief is Islam? Islam birthrates are on the rise, while Christian birthrates are falling. If you don’t watch out your new holiday will be ramadan. THAT’s the war on Christmas you should worry about.
Liberals, Islamics, they both like to force their way on others.
DaveH,
The AP did a little poll the other day on whether to keep In God We Trust on our money and 78% were for keeping it!!! I forgot, it also had the words under God in the pledge!!!! 78%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But Dave, this info won’t make the Christians on this site feel any better, as the “other Christians” in the world are not the “RIGHT ONES”. You have to be a white, Conservative, probably Baptist, American radical, to be the right kind of Christian, according to these rt wingers on this post.
Dave that’s because Libs and facts are incompatible.
Merry Christmas!
Thanks Dave for careing enough to do the invesigating and leg work to find the facts Your a True American and A True Brother God Bless You Dave and Merry Christmas.
The majority is not always right, and statistics are of little concern to the Creator of us all. Not all of mankind will be saved. Heck, one third of the angels chose to rebel and hell was created for them not us but “As you sow, so shall you reap.” Just as we were not all born at the same time or the same place or same country, so when we leave this earth life we will not all be going to the same place. The choice of where you will go is up to you, even if you choose to believe otherwise.
Let me share some old memories with you. I was born in Hungary (a Soviet occupied, Communist country) and in December, 1949 I was almost 16 years old. December 21 in that year was the “biggest” holiday and celebration because that was Stalin’s 70th birthday. The
comrades did everything imaginable to replace Christmas with the birthday of one of the worst mass murderer in history. We had to sing cantatas and recite odes dedicated to old Joe, there were festivities all over the country -ordered by the Hungarian Communist leaders. The six lane wide greate boulevard in downtown Budapest was decorated with banners stretched between buildings lining both sides of the boulevard. I have never forgot one of them: “Glory to Stalin in the Kremlin” paraphrasing Glory to God in the highest. BUT who gives a rat’s ass about Stalin today? Communism is totally discredited except among some of the Czars in Washington D.C. and a few other unfortunate countries. The present idiocy will run its course, “the dogs bark and the caravan proceeds” according to the Arabian proverb… By Christmas 1950 we were back to “normal”. The covert celebration came when the old brigand kicked the bucket on March 5, 1953.
Christmas is not a biblical festival…it’s a pagan festival dressed up to be more acceptable for Christians. Check out the pagan origins at http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/5777575/ . In fact, our founding fathers in this country did not observe Christmas with the exception of Catholics in Virginia. Most evidence indicates the birth of Jesus (Yeshua) as occurring in the Fall (probably during the Fall Festival of Sukkot). Interestingly, the Catholic Church’s own calendar has a holy day in mid December celebrating the conception of Jesus…which would place his conception around the time of Hannukah, his birth around the time of Sukkot, and his death/resurrection around the time of Passover. All 8 day festivals as another interesting point of correlation. And we have biblical scriptures indicating that Yeshua observed Hannukah…so I’ll steer clear of the pagan festival and remember Yeshua’s conception as my family participates in Hannukah…the Festival of Lights and the Festival of Rededication. “Let your light shine before all men…”
Hi,I believe that you are mistaken when you suggest that Christ was born in the fall of the year.He was most likly born in the spring.
AAAAAAAAAAmen, brother… you speak the truth…
Sadly, many Christians don’t know these truths from scripture…
Jeremiah 10:1-4
[1] Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel.
[2] Thus says the LORD: “Learn NOT the way of the nations,
nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens
because the nations are dismayed at them,
[3] for the customs of the peoples are FALSE.
A tree from the forest is cut down,
and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman.
[4] Men deck it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so that it cannot move.
Jesus was Jewish and observed all of the Jewish high holy days… Nowhere in scripture is Easter or Christmas mentioned but Passover and Succot / Feast of Tabernackles (celebration of God taking up residence with his people) most definitely is.
Kim, MERRY CHRISTMAS And may God bless you!!!
Of course Christmas and Easter, the words, are not mentioned in the Bible. Those words came as Christians celebrated Jesus’ birth and resurrection from the dead. God did not create any holidays, or holy days, we humans do to celebrate and remember certain events. We are only told to keep the Lord’s Day, either Saturday or Sunday as to your religion, holy. How we do that is by the rules set up by each Church as a practicing community. That’s why the First Amendment is so important.
Kim, apparently you are living in Old Testament times. We, as Christians, know what it contains, but we are called to be Easter people. The reason for the Old Testament was to show how God created the heavens and earth, how sin came into the world, how God revealed Himself to the Jewish people/chosen people. Until then He kept Himself hidden after Adam and Eve lost Paradise. It kept pointing to a redeemer who would save us from our sins and open once more the gates of Heaven to us. The New Testament shows how Jesus was the fulfillment of the Old Testament and how we are to live in relationship to God and one another. That’s why Jesus is called “The Christ”, the anointed one. All the holy days and holidays are helps in doing this.
In order to take people away from paganism, Christians chose some of their holidays and practices and Christianized them. They celebrated special moments in Christ’s life.
American, does that mean you don’t abide by the Ten Commandants, as they are from the Old Testament?
No, Jesus said we are to obey them and He added two himself, Love God and love your neighbor. That’s really what the ten commandments are all about.
David,
Merry Christmans & Happy Hanukkah.
the time for revolution is now ! how about this …if we can’t say CHRIST OR CHRISTMAS OR JESUS take the HOLIDAY off the books ….no days off with pay …no sales at the stores…. no decorations ….no office parties…just work as usual……OR AT LEAST NOT FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT BELIEVERS AND OPPOSE CHRISTMAS !!……WILL THIS MAKE THEM HAPPY??….MIGHT AS WELL DO THE SAME WITH EASTER…!!IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS AND RESURECTED ON EASTER SUNDAY…… STOP COMPLAINING AND APPOLOGIZE TO THE ” BUNNY ” FOR HIS DAY GETTING SPOILED !
Office parties, please! Consider spreading a little love and Christian charity instead of feeding your face or boozing it up. Christ is not about office parties! Have a revolution in the library! A mind is a terrible thing to waste! Happy Holidays!
Do people not realize that Christianity is not all about an invisible God, it is a set of moral standards for one to live by. Christmas, and all other religious celebrations are a way of confirming these standards, and the banning of same is an attack on all decent folk.. Christian and others. Happy Christmas to all.
I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.Your remarks were right on.
Wow! A set of moral standards? You wouldn’t know that from the division, hate spewing and name calling from the self described Christians in this forum! Laura just called me a “Bloody tampon”! God help her and restore her mind! Merry Christmas!
I agree with almost all of the article. Both the left and the right wing parties in our Gov are gulity of constitution medeling.Just look at what George W. Bush did while in the White House!
Yep, I agree … I agree with Glenn Beck … we’ve been duped by progressives posing as democrats and republicans since the early 1900′s. All the yelling, screaming and conniving from the progressives doesn’t change the eternal … Jesus Christ IS Lord and His Word WILL ENDURE FOREVER! God help us to take back our country. Merry Christmas to all!
Happy April Fool’s Day to you!
ALL the Word will endure! PSALMS 82:3 “Defend the poor and the fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and the needy!”
I thank God very often for giving us George Bush. He was not afraid to do whatever was necessary to keep us safe. I only wish that this kid in the Whitehouse can do the same I know he has the tools but I doubt he has the will. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.
Keep us safe? You’re kidding, right? 9/11 happened on Bush’s watch after he ignored the warnings and intelligence from the Clinton Administration! You are right about one thing, Bush did whatever was necessary for political gain including torture, secret prisons, spying on Americans, ignoring the Constitution, invading a sovereign nation with no ties to 9/11 and courting the Bin Laden family. Bush squandered the Clinton surplusses and caused the current Recession. The Bank Bail out occurred on Bush’s watch! He is a war criminal who should be held accountable! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
How about some references for your accusations, Fool? You do have some don’t you?

Some churches do go to extremes in trying to control people’s lives, but most don’t. The main thing is belief in God, and obey the ten commandments. They actually free us from the effects of sin.
It doesn’t matter to me if Christmas is really Christ’s birthday, or if there is a God. What does matter is that Christ undoubtedly had a major influence on civilization. I believe it was a very positive influence out of which much of our morality and tolerance sprang.
Why shouldn’t people be able to celebrate his life?
The only possible explanation I can imagine for Liberals trying so hard to rid our country of religion is the fact that it stands in their path of absolute power.
Vote Libertarian:
http://libertarianparty.org/platform
Actually, I think it’s more the atheists who are responsible for doing away with, or trying to, our religious practices. For them, it’s like a reminder of what they are in denial about. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be bothered by it.
When someone says “happy holiday” I have begun to ask them, “of the 133 holidays I counted in one calendar year, which holiday would you be referring?” We have freedom of speech, yet the people have allowed state and federal perpetrators to circumvent this right. We by (law: at least the military is) are required to respect the customs of countries we visit, but visitors to our country whine that they are offended by some of our customs and Americans (some) just cower and convert and tell us that because someone who is not born in America is offended we must respect them. No consideration is taken for the Americans whom are offended that they have to change, WHAT ABOUT MY REACTION: I FIND THAT YOU MAKING ME CHANGE IS OFFENSIVE, BUT OUR VOICE IS NEVER HEARD.
Tell them if they dont like our customs go back where come from i am sick of this pc (word removed) i say what i want.If they are offeded too bad
Ill tell ya one thing I love my country and I served her first as a soilder then as a police officer and the person that comes here and disrespects my country or the rights that my ancestors as well as myself have fought and died for would not like me. I cower from no man and I tell it like it is you can respect that or disrespect it,however if you disrespect it do it out of my reach because if your to close you wont like me much.
Yes it is true, only the Government cannot stifle speech, your work place can stifle speech. What about the respect of the customer in your business when you instruct an employee to only say “happy holiday”. If I the customer say, “Merry Christmas” and you respond with “happy holiday”, you are disrespecting the customer, so why should I return to shop there again. Basically you the business owner just told me to F!!! Off.
David,
No you are not correct!! No one can legally stifle your right of free speech including the government!!!
I don’t know why anyone wold be offended if someone wishes them a “Merry Christmas”. All that person is doing is wishing you well.
Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish friends, Merry Christmas to our Christian friends, and happy holidays to non-believers.
Thanks for saying what’s on the minds of the majority of the people !
I always look foward when A&E Channel use to air how George and Lauara Bush decorated the White House for CHRISTMAS.It seems this year Barack family what had no time or thy where to busy flying all over the World.
Was your tv blacked out or are you nuts too?
Being wrong does not classify one as being “nuts”. That was a typically nasty comment from a typical Liberal.
http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009/12/white-house-recycles-christmas-tree-ornaments.php
You are correct, but being nuts classifies one as nuts.
Indeed a great article Chip! Like you, I wish all the Glen Becks, O’reillys and every real, true American rise up and take our country back from these minorities. Our forefathers were men with convictions, determination and the will to built an America based on religious belief and “In God We Trust.” Keep up the good fight and may the spirit of Christmas rediates throughout this greatest country God creates. MERRY CHRISTMAS, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND MERRY CHRISTMAS to all!
Pose Fa’aita
Right on.
Hey be nice to those minorities! All those illegal Mexicans are 100% Christian! They’ll help your numbers against the muslims. Better learn where Mecca is, you have to face it five times a day when you pray.
HEY! Catholic is NOT Christian. They do good works yes, and follow tradition-which is trouble. It is by FAITH ALONE that saves, not saying a “hail mary” five times. Mary is NOT God, nor is she anything but a sinner like the rest of the people. Thou shalt have NO OTHER god before ME, says the Lord. Catholics only believe some of what Christians believe. If there is some false within a truth, is it not ALL false? A white lie still has the word “lie” in the statement; therefore, it is still a LIE.
Professing Christ while spewing hatred doesn’t save either!
Laura? For about 1000 years the Roman Catholic church represented ALL of Christianity on earth. The Catholics are the original Christians and to this day remain Christians. How can you say that they’re not?
Laura is MAD!
You are showing your ignorance about what Catholics believe.
Laura – like many people who proclaim to be Christian – you don’t have the correct information – you need to do actual research and find out where your Christianity came from -
Amen … Merry Christmas to all!
how about christmas is not actually a christian holiday and does not celebrate the birth of christ? the truth is no one knows when jesus was born but it was sometime in the fall. and he never instructed his followers to celebrate his birth, only his death. and all the symbols associated with christmas have pagan origins. and dec. 25th is a pagan celebration of the winter solstice. so don’t lump all of us who don’t celebrate christmas together as pc or anti-religion or humanistic. it may be we just have a distaste for the hypocrisy of christmas.
I agree with absolutely everything you wrote. People, especially those who call themselves believers in Jesus Christ need to know the truth… Here’s the scripture that explains the precise date He was born on in the fall of the year… http://www.elshaddaiministries.us/audio/more/birthday.html
The history of this world confirms December 25th to be the birth of the sun god Apollo, the birth of the Egyptian god named Rah (which happens to be hebrew for evil). Revelation 9:11 They have as king over them, the ANGEL OF THE ABYSS; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name Apollyon.
The bible does not confirm December 25 to be the birth of the Savior of this world, Yeshua HaMashiac better known by his name translated to Greek as Jesus Christ.
I am a bible believing Christian and I do not celebrate Jesus’s birth on December 25th but rather Feast of Tabernacles with all of His Jewish brethren who believe in Him (which, by the way, is a growing number these days).
People need to know the truth… pass it on.
Kim….Christmas has become so commercialized and outright pagan that I stopped celebrating it many years ago. I like your idea of celebrating Christ’s birth on the appropriate Jewish holiday without the commercial hype. We should just abandon December 25th to the pagans and have no more official Christian connection with it.
You’re absolutely right. Christ’s birthday was conveniently relocated to December 25th as a marketing ploy to help with converting followers to this new religion. Swap Christmas for celebrating the winter solstice. The solstice marks the beginning of days becoming longer, the birth of the sun. Where do you think the Christmas Tree came from? The Yule Log? Mistletoe? There’ll all pagan solstice / fertility symbols. Exchanging gifts? Romans had been doing it long before Christ. It’s fake. But if mass consumerism, switching the sun’s “birthday” for Christ’s made-up birthday and worshipping a fir tree (isn’t that a false idol?) is a big deal to you, Merry Christmas!
The churches only celebrate the birth of Jesus acknowledging Him as our Redeemer. All the rest is peculiar to some families or countries. In our family, the way we celebrate is to get together and enjoy one another as a family of believers. There’s nothing wrong to have a yule log, that just a traditional thing having nothing to do with jesus’ birth. It’s just a way to celebrate as there are many traditions around every holiday.
So basically you’re advocating a ton of new laws, state by state, to promote religion? Wouldn’t the executive branches of each state have to be expanded to enforce those laws in an increasingly secular society? How does this square with your belief in less government?
Political Correctness should truly be renamed “Political Cowardness” because they don’t have the guts to say what the truth really is for fear of offending someone!! SO WHAT!!!!! Remember the right to “voice your opinion”?? I am so sick of having to pussyfoot around others who do not blend into our society and whine about almost everything. If you don’t like me saying MERRY CHRISTMAS then i have 2 words for you!!!(Words removed for offensive content) If you don’t like CHRISTMAS, so what! DO WHATEVER YOU WANT but DO NOT WHINE ABOUT WHAT I DO OR SAY !!!!!!!!!! Religion is supposed to bring out the best qualities in humans but i guess that depends on what religion you subscribe to , doesn’t it. GOD loves us all, even the narrow-minded ones! Only man takes God’s word and changes it!
Your god must be awfully proud of your post.
Which of God’s words is that? What religion do you subscribe to?
L work in the church office and I am so glad I can say MERRY CHRISTMAS
I used to work at a bank and the President was always told by people how glad they were he had someone
Merry Christmas to all and GOD BLESS Everyone.
Merry christmas to all and to all a good night if people are offened by me saying Merry Christmas TO BAD get over it.. I was born here in the usa if people that live here and were not born here and are offended by Merry Christmas GO HOME to bad I dont tell you how to celebrate your Holidays do I .
gandof2000,
Agreed and I don’t know where our resident German has any right in the discussions on our country as he often degrades her!!!
Merry Christmas Joe.
With all due respect to mr livinston & to the rest of you. Please tell me where it states in the constitution & declaration that CHRISTIANITY IS THE RULING PARTY. This is NOT what the founding fathers intended. why do people insist twisting this meaning. WE ARE FOUNDED ON THE FREEFROM FROM RELIGION NOT ON A RELIGION. THIS IS WHY THEY LEFT ENGLAND RIGHT.
here is a question for all.
Does our Constitution & Declaration of Indepence Represent a specific rule of a religious belief and if thats the case which belief would that be.
Reason. If it is said that Christianity represents most of the belief In the United States. Should that belief be the only one representing all Americans and the one solely included in the above question. Neither one states that, but it is assumed.
Ruling by one religion, is very much what is implied in some comments here. If christianity were to be the ruling party to govern lets say starting in 2010. Well first the founding documents would have to be changed to reflect this, and I dont think would go over to well. What becomes of those that do not convert or will they have a choice. Are all the non-believers going to be put into a certain area, or just made to leave the country. Why does this sound familiar. Thats right it has happened before. This time though not by a sword but by laws. I hope this is not a senerio that anyone wants to be a part of. You know I was taught to respect all religions, but there are the extremes in all that to that cannot be helped. You cannot straight jacket people into believing in any one way. I hope I never see a time in america where we are told by any one religion, what way everyone should be believing in. Im sure in some eyes I am completly wrong, but tell me what part im wrong in, without condeming me & the name calling.
Russ,
No name calling here. You are entitled to your opinion. No one is trying to impose anything on you.
We’re just trying to uphold tradition in this Great Country.
Merry Christmas!
The Truth Shall Make You Free.
You are right Mr. Wood. You are right in saying that we have a bunch of spineless sissies as leaders. I neither respect most of them nor trust them anymore. Our check and balance has been short-circuited. We need to replace the majority of them very quickly before it is too late.
I have concluded that the phrase “Happy Holidays” is a brainwashing technique (and there are other actions as well that I will not get into) used to dissolve the American culture, employed by the anti-God group or whatever term you want to identify these people by. Therefore, from this moment on, I plan to ask the question: “What holiday are we celebrating that you are wishing upon me?” and conclude with a “Merry Christmas”
Merry Christmas to you all! God help us!
So, we are to believe that anyone who is not “Christian” does not deserve to be appropriately greeted during the “holiday season”…maybe your store or business is frequented by honest, hard working people who ARE NOT CHRISTIANS!!!! Maybe, just maybe, it is ok to incude everyone in your greeting instead of making a point to exclude people who are not “Christians”….Frankly this is rediculous, powerful religious groups are so dam arrogant it makes me sick!
The Constitution says a great many other things in which I see you have felt better to leave out of your essay…The hypocracy is pathetic…Goes to show how retarded organized religion actually is!
It is human nature to believe in something that attempts to explain the unexplained…Simply because your parents told you that this is the right way to think or that the only way to be a good person is to read this three-thousand year old book and to do everything it says…
You sound like a angry person whats your problem? i go by the brible
I am a Christian and believe me, this poster just sounds like someone who believes differently. Now Laura and some of the rest of the self described Christians, that’s anger! In fact, it’s sheer MADNESS!
This time of the year has been the Christmas season for over a hundred years or more. It’s only after people from other countries who are not Christian came to this country that they began to object.
They have as much right to express their own sentiments of their own holiday/holy days as anyone else. So to object to Christians expressing their faith, which is given to us all by the Constitution, says something about themselves.
I will say merry christmas i dont care somebody will be upset if i get into a confrntion i will remind them that they are anti american. My ancestors fought to have this country free i am a freedom fighter.
Merry Christmas to everybody! If you want to send the ACLU a Christmas Card send it to the address below and make sure it says Merry Christmas!

James,
thanks, but I already sent one dozen of them with a Christian motif!!!
If you want to celebrate christmas go ahead, just do not call your self christian, say it has anything to do with the bible or stuff it down other peoples throat.
I guess the bible doesn’s waste a great deal of time promoting proper grammar or spelling skills…Freedom fighter huh? What the hell is that supposed to mean? This country was founded by a section of people trying to escape religious persecution! Now a days people are dealing with Christians imposing their iron will and bullet proof set of morals and values on everyone else AGAIN hundreds of years later….Believe it or not, a person can still maintain good morals and values WITHOUT paying attention to the bible or so-called “religious leaders”…BACK AWAY FROM YOURSELVES!!!!!!!!!!
Spain,
I suggest you look up the letters from our founders that they wrote with their own hands!!! most if not all talk of their belief in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!!! This country was founded on Christian values!!!!
AMEN!
murder and slavery
When I am wished me a “Happy Holiday” by a store employee, I merely smile and say “I hope you have a Merry Christmas”. A lot of times they will offer me a Merry Christmas in return after I do this. I won’t tell anyone to stop saying Happy Kwanzaa or Happy Hanukkah, so don’t tell me I can’t say Merry Christmas. The few really DO rule this country – how sad!
As a Christian I will wish my fellow citizens a Merry Christmas.
No one can stop me. Christmas is a Christian Holiday and represents the birth of our Lord and Saviour.
Those that don’t believe should keep quiet and show some respect for other’s faith. Christianity is a religion same as others and deserves to be shown the same respect other religions demand.
I exercise my right to freedom of speech and expression and from cold and snowy Canada with all who read this “Merry Christmas” and may Jesus be the reason for the season!!!
Merry Christmas to you all and to all of you who feel offended, I don’t care. This is our United States and you will live by OUR ways of life and celebrations, if you don’t like it, I don’t care.
To those of you who talk about taking OUR COUNTRY back, I applaud you, it is time to enforce the “CONSTITUTION”. Let’s get those “CLOWNS” out of OUR WHITEHOUSE before they do anymore damage.
M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S to you all
Kenny, a mind really is a terrible thing to waste!
In your case, Fool, you can’t waste something you don’t have.
I sent a reply to Chip Woods on this one, but, to repeat……. Fact is, I can’t look at someone and know what religion he or she practices, but I can look at ANYONE and KNOW they have a right, given inalienably by the Creator, to believe as they wish, to worship or not worship, to be a Christian, or a Jew, or a Hindi, or an Eckist, or whatever. AND that they practice variopus spiritual pursuits, and have their special days they celebrate, etc.
And by study, I have found that almost every hu-man on the planet celebrates some holiday or other during the month of December. Therfore, the term “Happy Holidays” seems to be the ONLY greeting needed, and this is NO way a “war on Christianity” nor a “War on Christmas”. All this whole nonesense is about is an attempt to garauntee for CHRISTIANS ONLY that they stand on some pedestal and the rest of us need to worship their stance and their holidays.
If that is what YOU, in particular, think, then I’d ask that you REREAD that U.S. Constitution, or have someone read it for you. It is our promise from the Founders that EVERYBODY have equality, and equal treatment under the law, not just Christians. We all have the right to freedom of speech, religion, thought, etc.
The very idea that we need to pander to a certain religious group because they have a holiday in December is about as sensible as telling me that “…the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” only applies to those who are good shots (alternatively “bad” shots. No, folks, religious freedom (and all the others) apply to us ALL, not just you and your church buddies!
May whatever Holiday you celebrate in December be a Happy one for you and yours!
BTW, Fool patrol, you continue to wish three groups some kiond of Happy holidays—study into it—you’ll find that Christmas, Channuka, Kwanza, don’t even come close to covering most of the people of the United States, let alone the World. Your Happy Holidays, however, covers it. As does that clerk @ Wal-Mart!
phred,
You are right. All religions are free in this country.
But what we are talking about here is suppression of that freedom for Christians. There is an intense assault on Christianity currently in this country. People being punished because they prayed. People being punished because they dared to bring a religious relic to school. The Ten Commandments being ordered removed from public property, as if there is something wrong with entreating people “Thou shalt not steal” or “Thou shalt not kill”.
This is similar to the assaults on religion that occured after the Russian Revolution. Those with totalitarian aspirations first need to remove the roadblock of Religion.
Phred posts an intelligent well presented argument and then you put a spin on it with this hyperbolic paranoia.
There is an intense assault on Christianity currently in this country? Who has been punished because they prayed? Who has been punished because they dared to bring a religious relic to school? This has happened to hundreds of thousands of US citizens? How come this wasn’t in the news?
The Ten Commandments should be removed from public property, because governments don’t have an “official” religion. There is nothing wrong with entreating people “Thou shalt not steal” or “Thou shalt not kill”, but you don’t need a biblical quote to do it.
This is similar to the assaults on religion that occurred after the Russian Revolution. Really? What are the parallels? The Soviets intended to erase religion, do you honestly think that is happening now? Seriously? Religion and Totalitarian aspirations go hand in hand. Look at Iran, the Taliban, the Spanish Inquisition.
I respect you for your contrarian views and agree with many of them but this post seems uncharacteristic for you.
Who has been punished because they prayed?
http://www.sltrib.com/faith/ci_13255711
More on that:
http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=17160
When you say “punished for praying” you’re referring to the Principal who had to go to court? He wasn’t fined, he wasn’t incarcerated he was just inconvenienced. I thought you meant he was demoted or lost his job, or was thrown in jail or a concentration camp or something. Let’s remember, rightfully or wrongfully, he WAS in violation of a court order. And…
This was previously posted but I will post it again:

ACLU suing to remove religious relics from school:
http://calltodecision.com/asso.htm
When you said removing religious relics from schools I thought you meant something important, something historical. The classic “blonde-haired, blue-eyed Jesus picture” is hardly a religious relic. (It’s certainly no “shroud of Turin”!) The link is to an article posted in 2006 about a picture that’s been hanging in a school for 30+ years. Hasn’t the statute of limitations run out on that one? AND…
“This has happened to hundreds of thousands of US citizens?”.
Where did you get that quote, Curtis? It wasn’t from my comment.
You said “This is similar to the assaults on religion that occurred after the Russian Revolution.”
I paraphrased you as saying “This has happened to hundreds of thousands of US citizens?”
If you’re going to say it is similar to the Russian Revolution it must have happened to hundreds of thousands of Americans like it did to Soviet (especially Ukrainian) citizens. Furthermore, the Soviets confiscated Church real estate, as well as precious metals and stones. Is that happening in the US? You’ve cited three separate examples of intolerance and called it an assault on freedom. I don’t really disagree that it’s a freedom issue, but it’s hardly an all out assault. Three examples or a hundred examples hardly compare to the degree and ruthlessness of the Soviet government intentional attempt to crush religion. The cases you cited hardly sounded like government persecution Soviet style, so yes, your comment is hyperbolic. (I regret using the word paranoia, I thought I had edited it to read “hyperbolic post” re: your comment below). Phred’s comment stood on its own, why did you feel the need to put a spin on it?
“Hyperbolic Paranoia”?
Really? So if one sees events and interprets them correctly, he is paranoid?
I would rather be Paranoid than to be stupidly Naive.
In certain places, yes, people are forbidden to say anything remotely religious or they lose their jobs. In public schools, don’t you dare even mention the word “God” or bring a Bible. It’s verboten.
I think those who say we can’t pray in a public place or government building, etc., forget that it all belongs to “the public”, us. We pay for it all with our tax money. If they are that adamant about separation of church and state (a fallacy anyhow), then religious people should not have to pay taxes.
Are you being intentionally dense?? Public schools say God every day in the reciting of the pledge of allegiance.
DaveH..all of your posts haven’t been dumb, but this one is absurd. An all out assault on religion?? It’s very simple, the constitution clearly separates gov’t and religion,w/ good reason. The public schools are a part of gov’t,because they are funded by tax $$ that go to gov’t and then to schools. The imaginary assault you mention is only some smarter people finally standing up to the Christian orthodoxy that has controlled our country for 200 yrs, against the wishes of the founders.
This is all a very scary fulfillment of the “changing times and laws” prophecy in Daniel. If we are really in the End-Times now, this is total evidence. I feel like I’m in a really bad dream, and I can’t get out of it. People need to know the TRUTH:
Jesus was Jewish / not catholic, not baptist, and He was most definitely NOT PAGAN.
Jesus fulfilled the biblical holydays not these pagan holidays…
He was crucified on Passover.
He was burried on Unleavened Bread.
He rose on First Fruits.
His spirit was poured out over Shavuot / Pentecost.
He was born on Succoth / Feast of Tabernacles.
He’s coming back on Feast of Trumpets…
And he’s making everyone pay for their sins on Atonement.
Why doesn’t anybody start reading the bible and see there is no Easter and Christmas in HIS WORD?????? There are biblical, God given Holy days that Americans have thrown out the window for pagan celebrations. He’s not to pleased with these “stiff necked” people. And people wonder why God’s not blessing America now…
These are the days of “knowledge increasing”… these are the days where “you will perish for a lack of knowledge” so seek the Truth, “it will set you free.”
Jesus wasn’t born on December 25th… He was born in the fall on the feast of Tabernacles, the celebration of God taking up residence with His people… There wouldn’t have been any sheep or shepherds in the fields in the middle of winter when they are all tabernacled up. God wouldn’t have made the mother of His only son give birth outside in the middle of winter. The census wouldn’t have taken place in winter months, or the Jews would have revolted for being made to travel in winter weather…
People don’t have to give up their winter celebration of Christmas for now knowing the truth… When God closes one door, He opens another… There’s always Hannukah, Festival of Lights, which is rooted in real history, and is the precise date Jesus was conceived on when the “Light decended on Mary” as Jesus was the “Light to this world.”
There are multitudes of Jews who are becoming believers in Jesus. Gentiles are grafted into this Tree of Life…
Colossians 2:16-17 “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come, and the body is of Christ.”
The one new man Jesus spoke of is Jew and Gentile in one. There is no “oneness” to be had in pagan holidays.
“Those who have an ear, will hear.”
Kim, Jesus was the fulfillment of the Old Testament. We are called to be Easter people. Why should we celebrate the Jewish holy days? We believe in Jesus’ divinity, thus we celebrate His special days. They don’t know the true date of Jesus’ birth. They chose a pagan holiday to “Christianize” it. They know because of certain events that happened historically that are in the Bible that it was about that time of year. We are not celebrating a pagan holiday, we are celebrating Jesus’ birth. That’s a big difference. Just because the government made it an official holiday so people could be off work to celebrate does not make it pagan.
Yes, Jesus was always a Jew, but He established His own church with His sacraments. So Christians, those who believe in Him, are “completed Jews”.
As for the various denominations of Christian churches, it’s their way of celebrating/living their beliefs. But we all manage to get along, no jihads, etc.
As for when He’s coming back, that too, is unknown, as He said Himself, only the Father knows.
As for the Tree of Life, Heaven was closed until Jesus suffered and died to open it up for us again. So Christians are not “grafted” onto the Tree of Life, every human being has access to Heaven. We cannot judge whether anyone gets there or not.
And as for having to travel in cold weather, they would have had nothing to say about it as it was forced on them to travel to begin with by the Romans.
Do you religious people have to LIE about EVERYTHING? This “War on Christmas” was started by James Dobson and Jerry Falwell against the people who just wanted to celebrate the holidays without YOUR religious views attached to it, as it was celebrated centuries before Jesus was invented, and the joy of something in life was hijacked by lying ,theiving religious zeolots, just like they hijack everything they can and claim they are the only ones worthy of it! And now you turn it around and claim normal people started this? I just can’t believe your gutless cowardice! And what about Dobson’s blackballing stores that won’t conform to HIS wishes and demands? Once again the true side of christianity is shown!
I’m 75 years old and as far back as I can remember, Christmas has always been celebrated. Store were decorated and the department stores even had moving figures in their windows. It was a joyful time of the year. People greeted one another with Merry Christmas wishes, cards were sent and nobody objected to all this. It’s only after anti-religion zealots, beginning with Madeline Murray O’hare, got the ACLU involved that people thought they had to fight for their right to their free expression that you heard them begin to fight back. If you don’t like to say Merry Christmas, don’t. But don’t be offended f someone greets you. They’re not trying to offend you, the exact opposite as unless you wear it on your forehead that you are an atheist, they wouldn’t know.
Also, for your information, Jesus was not invented. He really lived. Otherwise, there would not have been thousands of people martyred for their belief. There were thousands of people who were eye witnesses to what He said and did.
Sadly, some self described “Christians” do lie about everything. Just look at Sarah “give me free, what’s in it for me” Palin. Keep calling them out because if they ever get a foothold, America will be forever changed.
Yes, Fool, I have known Christians that are liars, but in my experience their numbers are dwarfed by the number of Liberal liars I have encountered.
And Liberalism is a religion. It is a religion based on Hopes and Dreams and they are not above using force to make the non-believers do things their way.
Sorry DaveH,but you’re showing your ignorance again. Religion requires belief in a deity(god,in case you didn’t know)or some mystical or ‘spiritual’ entity. Liberals believe in the power of humans to rationally control their destiny and benefit all society at the same time. No mysticism or magic or myths.
Happy Hanakkuh to our Jewish friends.
Merry Christmas to all our Christian friends.
What about Happy Kwanza to all your Black friends?
Profound misunderstandings of the nature and role of courts in our system of law appear to have led you to profound misunderstandings of the Constitution.
First, the binding effect of court decisions. When a court resolves the issues in a case, it’s decision in one sense governs only the parties before it–as you observe. In another sense, though, each court decision (and particularly those of higher or appellate courts) cumulatively adds to the “common law” that courts will consult and apply when resolving issues in future cases involving other parties. So, while each decision technically binds only the parties to the case, each decision may have a real effect of how courts handle other cases with other parties.
Moreover, when an appellate court decides a case, it’s holding actually is binding on lower courts that face the same issues in future cases. This fundamental principle (known by the Latin phrase stare decisis) was developed centuries ago in the courts of Great Britain–and was not invented by the modern liberals you seem to find behind everything you dislike.
Second, the nature of judicial decisions. While noting that the Constitution vests all legislative powers in the Congress, you ignore that it also vests the judicial power in the Supreme Court and such inferior courts as Congress may establish. The critical task then is to define and distinguish the legislative and judicial powers. The Constitution offers no definitions or explanations. At common law, a court takes existing law–whether statutory or judicial “common law”–and applies it to the facts of a particular case presented to it. Sometimes existing law spells out the pertinent rules in detail; other times the law says little about how a particular situation should be handled. With few exceptions, the court must decide the case then and there; it does not have the luxury of telling the litigants to go get a clarification from the legislature. So, court necessarily and routinely make decisions resolving issues in “gaps” in existing law; in doing so, they build the common law–and gradually close or narrow those gaps. You may call this “making” law, but it is what courts do. If they failed to do so, they would not be doing their jobs.
Because the Constitution does not specify what the legislative and judicial powers encompass, that question needed to be resolved. Early in our nation’s history, it was–in Marbury v. Madison. In that case, the Supreme Court decided that it was the legislature’s role to make the laws and the court’s role to decide and declare what the law is. The Court further held that in deciding what the law is with respect to the Constitution, the Court necessarily must decide whether a particular statute enacted by Congress conforms to the Constitution. I suppose the Congress or the President, co-equal branches of the government, or the People could have challenged the Court’s power to decide that it had the power it said it had, but they did not. And now that aspect is part of the bedrock of our Constitutional law and history. You, I gather, don’t like that aspect of our nation and would like to turn back the clock and argue for a different approach (exactly what isn’t clear).
Third, the First Amendment. You observe that the First Amendment itself governs only the federal government and then assert this leaves the states free to do whatever they want. The Fourteenth Amendment governs the states, and its guarantees of individual rights, particularly the privileges and immunities of citizenship, due process of law, and equal protection of the laws, effectively extend the First Amendment’s guarantees of religious liberty to the states.
With respect to your concern about people’s treatment of Christmas and “happy holidays” and all, when discussing separation of church and state, it is critical to avoid the all-too-common mistake of conflating the “public square” with “government.” The principle of separation of church and state does not purge religion from the public square–far from it. Indeed, the First Amendment’s “free exercise” clause assures that each individual is free to exercise and express his or her religious views–publicly as well as privately. The First Amendment constrains only the government not to promote or otherwise take steps toward establishment of religion.
As government can only act through the individuals comprising its ranks, when those individuals are performing their official duties (e.g., public school teachers instructing students in class), they effectively are the government and thus should conduct themselves in accordance with the First Amendment’s constraints on government. When acting in their individual capacities, they are free to exercise their religions as they please. If their right to free exercise of religion extended even to their discharge of their official responsibilities, however, the First Amendment constraints on government establishment of religion would be eviscerated.
Those running private businesses, of course, are free to highlight Christmas–or not–as they see fit.
The First Amendment embodies the simple, just idea that each of us should be free to exercise his or her religious views without expecting that the government will endorse or promote those views and without fearing that the government will endorse or promote the religious views of others. By keeping government and religion separate, the establishment clause serves to protect the freedom of all to exercise their religion. Reasonable people may differ, of course, on how these principles should be applied in particular situations, but the principles are hardly to be doubted. Moreover, they are good, sound principles that should be nurtured and defended, not attacked. Efforts to transform our secular government into some form of religion-government partnership should be resisted by every patriot.
The First Amendment says simply this:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”.
Get the phrase “Congress shall make no law”? There is no rule outlined in the Constitution that says “we shall have separation of church and state”. Maybe we need such a rule, but in that case there are provisions made for amending the Constitution – legally.
The fact that government has gotten away for centuries with trampling the Constitution does not justify our continued apathy.
The phrase “separation of church and state” is but a metaphor to describe the underlying principle of the First Amendment and the no-religious-test clause of the Constitution. In addition to Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, who had a central role in drafting the Constitution and First Amendment, confirmed that he understood them to “[s]trongly guard[] . . . the separation between Religion and Government.” Madison, Detached Memoranda (~1820). He made plain, too, that they guarded against more than just laws creating state sponsored churches or imposing a state religion. Mindful that old habits die hard and that tendencies of citizens and politicians could and sometimes did lead them to entangle government and religion (e.g., “the appointment of chaplains to the two houses of Congress” and “for the army and navy” and “[r]eligious proclamations by the Executive recommending thanksgivings and fasts”), he considered the question whether these were “consistent with the Constitution, and with the pure principle of religious freedom” and responded: “In strictness the answer on both points must be in the negative. The Constitution of the United States forbids everything like an establishment of a national religion.”
The absence in the Constitution of the metaphor commonly used to describe one of its principles is no more consequential than the absence of other phrases (e.g., Bill of Rights, separation of powers, checks and balances, fair trial, religious liberty) used to describe other undoubted Constitutional principles.
Laws are required for funding state supported schools, courthouses, etc.
It is public $$ that public institutions are supported with and that is why they can’t get involved w/ any religion. That is what the constitution says and intends. If not, then lets let Muslim,Hindu, Pagan,Mormon,Jewish,Wicca,Scientology and all the rest into the public square and into schools. Would that make the Christians who are whining about this issue happy?? Probably not, because what they want is their religion to be center stage and dominate society and gov’t.
I don’t recall that public schools ask anyone what religion they are.
All my life growing up I heard if you dont practice this that or the other religion your not going to make it to heaven. I dont believe that, I believe that everone practices their religion with a true commitment. I also hear my dad at 82 years old tell me with much conviction that if your not of his particular faith you wont make it to heaven. I have much love and respect for my father but I feel that one reliogen or the other saying if you dont believe according to our god your not going to heaven is an arrogent statement. Just like there are many languages in this world their are many religions. I feel each one will get you to your heaven. So all the tit for tat about one religion or the other is a waste of time. That being said this country was predominantly of the christian faith when I grew up hence the ten commandments at public places. The prayers in school were non denomanational you could say your own prayer if you chose to. And as I have stated in an earlier post I grew up southern baptist while my girlfried at that time was jewish. We respected each others beliefs. So all the squabling on here about one religion or another needs to stop. This is a prime example as to why we cant unite and move forward. Most of us want the same thing but it seems we cant agree to disagree on some things and just move on. Like my post Ill bet a lot of you dont agree with my take on religion so lets just agree to disagree and move on. All of this being said I agree with Chip in his assesment of an attack on christmas as I know it. Also like Ive said before make no mistake about it we are in the fight of our lives with a govt out of control politicions off the chain and the one so called religion which I have come to call phnatical islamon a mission of jihad to rid the infidels(that would be us, from the face of the earth) I know I will probably get a lot of flack for the last statement I will close in saying untill some one can show me a reliable way to differentiat between a simple muslem follower and the fanaticle Islamic muslems who want me dead then I refuse to recognize them as fellow believers. All this being said Merry Christmas to you all.And GOD BLESS AMERICA. Now I fully exspect to set back and take a beating on here.
There are many roads to God. The important thing is the belief.
Most of the people in AMERICA are Christains, so why do we have to let a few IDIOTS have their way and not acknowledge that we have the MORAL RIGHT TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS and say MERRY CHRISTMAS. IF Christ had not been born, where do the idiots think they would be right now. If anyone does NOT like it, then they should leave this country and stop finding fault with it and stop bad mouthing AMERICA to other countries like our president has done TOO MANY TIMES.
@ Ruth
Why do you call people who disagree with you idiots? That isn’t Christian, is it?
Ruth…There you folks go again, the old and tired America love it or leave it argument. You and your allies in the extreme rightwing are finding plenty to complain about this new administration..maybe you should leave if you don’t like it. This is my country.
No one is telling you that you can’t celebrate Xmas and say merry Xmas. If you work for someone and they want to make it a broader holiday by telling you to say something else, then get a new job.
In the meantime,please quit whining.
Well at the department store, I work at I greet all the customers with a very Merry Christmas and have a great day.
Here’s a great video

Constantine created “Christ’s Mass” – Christmas and Easter… God created the 7 biblical Holydays referenced throughout the Bible. Read the Bible at least once before you die and figure out the TRUTH for yourself…
Many people who call themselves BELIEVERS in Jesus Christ are living out prophecy right now.
Wathmen are heralding the message and no one listens.
There is no war on Christmas. It is all a matter of obnoxious Christians playing the pity card, and their need/desire to be the only religion.
In reality, there is no one religion. Christianity is one of the leaders, but it is not number one.
The never ending whines that America is a ‘Christian nation. The founding fathers went to great lengths to keep any one faith from being mentioned in the founding documents. If you take the time to read the writings of the founders, you will find that the majority were Dist, not Christian. Several were Atheist.
So, put your pity fiddle back in the box, and let the rest of the world get on with life.
To FoolPatrol, not all blacks celebrate Kwanzaa as it is a made up holiday basically celebrating nothing except for the fact they are black. So wishing a black Happy Kwanzaa may be, to some, a racist comment.
In President George W. Bush’s 2004 Presidential Kwanzaa Message, he said that, “During Kwanzaa, millions of African Americans and people of African descent gather to celebrate their heritage and ancestry. Kwanzaa celebrations provide an opportunity to focus on the importance of family, community, and history, and to reflect on the Nguzo Saba or seven principles of African culture. These principles emphasize unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.”[14]
Blacks have so many things going on to celebrate the fact of their blackness. Every year here in our state they have the “Black Expo”. There used to be a black Miss America pageant, but I don’t know if they still do. They complained there were no blacks here or there in TV or sports. Now you look and who are the sports figures making those millions of dollars – blacks. And there are shows that have an all black cast, black reporters, etc., They’ve come a long way, yet they still complain. Being an American with all our freedoms and opportunities doesn’t seem to be enough.
I am sadden by many of these comments I am reading. Many are calling themselves Christians but are filled with hate and anger in their comments.
The bible 1 John 4:20 says: “If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.”
I must say, I believe in “the LORD”(YHVH in Hebrew), I believe in Jesus (Yeshua, Yahshua in Hebrew) and I believe in the bible. I however do not celebrate Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, or Halloween. I’m a caucasian, American born woman. I’m not Jewish either.
The history and the origin of those holidays is not in the bible. Not one of them. We have days in the bible that were given to us and instructed by GOD/YHVH to celebrate, they are talked about all throught the bible both Old and New Testament before, during, and after Jesus/Yahshua. Paul instructed from the TORAH (the first 5 bible books) and celebrated the HOLY DAYS in Leviticus 23.
I’m not offended if you say Merry Christmas, but I do think whether or not GOD/YHVH is offened should matter. HE would not and did instruct us to celebrate pagan holidays that have nothing to do with HIS son Jesus/Yahshua. I encourage anyone to do a google search put in any holiday (christmas, easter, etc. and then type pagan history.
Your worship is mixed with pagans and sunworshippers. It’s also shared by Wiccans. All the pagan holidays have been and are still set on the days you are speaking of honoring Jesus/Yahshua. You choose to do it your way instead of the way GOD has instructed you to worship. It’s what HE would call a “stiff-necked people”. Again and again, we dishonor and disobey GOD/YHVH’s commands and Laws. HE has been patient with us and is slow to anger because HE wants us to turn from our sins. How long will we continue to honor pagan gods and say it is for HIM?
Another thing I’d like to point out is the whole santa thing. The bible clearly tells us in several passages the GOD/YHVH despises lies. It’s a commandment and Santa is actually a pagan diety worshipped by wiccans and other groups. Early pictures of santa do not look friendly but because it was bad for marketing, they softened his image.
Some may say christmas is part of our country but it wasn’t to begin with. Christmas doesn’t and never did have anything to do with Jesus/Yahshua. It was actually outlawed in this country when this country was beginning because of it’s origins. The Germans actually forced it into this country at some point in the 1800′s. The Puritans actually did not celebrate any of the pagan holidays. Many of our recent encyclopedia’s won’t say that now because they’ve been updated about every 10 years but try finding an encyclopedia that is about 60 years old or older and see what it says about those holidays.
Even Jeremiah 10:1 – 16 warns of worshipping the wrong things.
My family has adjusted just fine to eliminating these things from our lives. We do it to please GOD/YHVH. Our whole reason for our existence is to worship and serve HIM. So why do we do what we want instead of seeking to please HIM?
I’m not judging anyone, I’m telling you the same things I have found out. I’m passing on the truth that I and thousands of others have come into in the last couple of decades. I didn’t always know these things, I’ve come into this knowledge in the last couple years. The reason our country is in the condition it is in, is not because people don’t say “merry christmas” it’s because people trust anything a preacher says, even when that preacher knowingly preaches lies.
We’ve all been mislead by preachers too afraid to lose their congregations and pagan-worshipping groups who encourage the celebration of these holidays by any and all willing to participate in them.
Okay, once more—this is one of the most arrogant arguments I can imagine. Christians who think EVERYONE should be wishing EVERYONE ELSE a “Merry Christmas”, and are “offended” by the use of the term “Happy Holidays” are doing their best to put down ANYONE who is not a Christian.
It does happen that I celebrate the holiday of the Feast of the Saturnalia at this time of year. It has ONLY been when I have mentioned that fact to someone that there has ever been anyone actually wish me a “Happy Saturnalia”. I have never insisted that anyone make such a wish, nor do I take offense when a Christian automatically assumes I am a fellow and wishes me a “Merry Christmas”. Now why in the world do a certain group of Christians take offense that I acknowledge hu-manitys holidays by wishing a “Happy Holidays”? Simple arrogance. Here it is:
“Most of us celebrate Christmas, therefore ALL of us must acknowledge Christmas. Those minority punks should get with the program and cater to me and mine because we are the majority.”
As for having “holiday shows” in public schools, as Mr. Woods comlained of—frankly, if you have a “Christmas Show”, and have the kids refer to Jesus, or “the savior” or whatever, you are promoting YOUR religion on my dime—-NOT what the United States was founded for.
Also, the line in the First Amendment DOES separate church and state for me–if it doesn’t fo
