The Scariest Picture You’ll Ever See

Take a good long look at the map below. Pay special attention to the areas that are in blue. Compare them, in size and location, to the areas that are in red. Then let me tell you why the numbers (and the colors) are so significant.
What you’re looking at is a map of the 2008 Presidential election, broken down by the results in each county. If Barack Obama received most of the votes in a particular county, it appears in blue. If John McCain was the winner, that county is in red.
If you added up the land mass of every blue and red county you’d see something really striking—the Republicans won 80 percent of this country, when measured by acreage. John McCain got a majority of votes in 2,417,000 square miles of the United States. Barack Obama, by comparison, won in just 580,000 square miles.
Ah, but now let’s look at the population numbers for each county. McCain still came out ahead, but not by much. The total population of counties won by Republicans was 143 million, while the population of counties won by Democrats was 127 million.
Basically, the Democrats swept the populations centers—the cities and more populated suburban areas—while the Republicans won everything else.
Now, guess what you would find if you could then overlay this map with one showing the distribution of food stamps, unemployment checks, subsidized housing and other welfare payments? Sure, there will be some in all of those red areas. There are plenty of Republicans receiving Social Security and Medicare. I’m sure there are even some Republican farmers who get paid not to grow crops. And there are certainly some Republican businessmen getting subsidies from Uncle Sam.
But the overwhelming majority of voters in the red areas pay more into government than they receive; while just the opposite is true in the blue areas. The majority of people there receive more in government benefits than they pay in taxes. In fact, 45 percent of adults in America pay no income taxes at all. Not one red penny. Zero. Nada. Zilch.
Can you guess where most of those people live? And which party they vote for? While you ponder the significance of these statistics let me repeat a quotation I used in last week’s column when I was discussing the differences between a republic and a democracy:
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, and is always followed by a dictatorship.”
The statement does not come from one of our Founding Fathers (although I’m sure that, to a man, they would agree with its warning). No, it was written long after our revolution, by a Scottish historian named Alexander Fraser Tytler. By the way, he wasn’t predicting the collapse of our republic; he was talking about what happened to the Athenian democracy 2,000 years ago.
Back to that map that’s bothered me so much. In most of the country the numbers are so close that an election can go either way, depending on which side is the most motivated. If the Democrats and their union allies and community organizers do a better job of getting out the vote, they win.
If the Republicans are inspired and enthusiastic enough about their candidate that they become almost evangelical in getting their friends and neighbors to vote, they carry the day. (This is especially true if they can appeal to enough independents to put the good of the country ahead of their own desire for some of that government booty.)
Now, let me ask you another question. How do you think this very delicate balance will change if several million illegal aliens are allowed to vote in our elections? May I see a show of hands of everyone who thinks the Republicans will get a majority of those votes? Anyone? Anyone?
I think you can guess where I’m going with this. For a lot of reasons we’ve discussed before, the Democrats not only won the White House two years ago, they also won a super-majority in Congress. Until Scott Brown won the Senate seat in Massachusetts last year the Republicans didn’t even have the manpower to mount a filibuster.
If you went by the numbers alone you’d have to conclude that the Democrats could pass anything they wanted. And yet look at all the trouble they’ve had getting their legislative program adopted. Yes, by using enough bribes, bluster and baloney they finally got Obamacare approved. But just by the skin of their teeth. Almost everything else they’ve wanted and Obama has promised is dead in the water. Cap and trade? Card check for unions? Unemployment payments forever? Fuggedaboutit. They just won’t happen. Not unless a lot more Democrats become a lot more suicidal.
Remember, the vast majority of people in Congress aren’t dedicated liberals or dedicated conservatives. The only thing they’re dedicated to is staying in office. They love the power and perks that come with being a member of the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Where else would you get to spend billions of dollars of other people’s money—and usually be thanked for it?
Remember, when you rob Peter to pay Paul you can count on getting the thanks of Paul. And his vote, too.
So what can we do about it? To paraphrase a comment I received from an alert reader a few weeks ago, we have three boxes we can use.
The first is the soap box. By and large, we’re doing a good job telling ourselves what’s wrong. But we’re not doing as well telling others.
If the fate of this republic depended on it, over the next four months, could you get one other person to share your concerns and vote accordingly? Believe it or not, that’s all it would take. Conservatives would win enough seats in the House to bring Obama’s socialistic schemes to a screeching halt. (And a lot of members who used to rubber-stamp every liberal boondoggle would begin to sound like Sarah Palin.)
That brings me to the second box we need to use—the ballot box. If just 10 percent of the people who voted right last time got one more person to vote with them, the politicians who promise to help take back our country would win in a landslide.
Listen, we have all the resources we need to turn things around. No matter how much some on the left might like to, government can’t shut us up or shut us down. We have all of the time, the talent and the funds we need. Let’s use them while we still can.
If we don’t, the day may come when the only avenue left to defeat total government is the third box. It’s the one that won our liberty the first time. I’m talking about the ammo box. Pray God we won’t have to use it again.

This whole article is lop-sided. I did not see the Republications complaining when George Bush got into the White House in the election in 2000 even though Al Gore got lots more votes. In my option, the people who support the states with the red votes, manipulate statistics to find something to complain about in almost every situation. They are in truth, the Party of Opposition.
Linda, sadly you are mistaken. Republicans have offerd alternative ideas to solve all of the problems we face today. If you did not understand the article, perhaps you need a tutor to help you with your reading comprehension.
It’s the Republicans who created much of the turmoil we face today with the largness they gave to corporations. So where are their solutions to healing this nation? Just screaming lower taxes,socialism,birth certificate and alot of other nonsense doen’t create jobs or get this country moving.

They have more people per square mile. How many of those red states have factories that build military equipment or military bases that support their local economy? How many do have farm subsidies? We don’t know what we’re voting for? You vote for Ivy League elites. You vote for over 4 trillion dollars in home loans to people who can’t make payments. I assume that the blacks did not vote for Obama ONLY because he is black. The figures I have heard are that they voted 93% to 97% FOR Obama. But, of course they weren’t being racist!!!

Now, pay very close attention: We would have voted for a black candidate if he or she were more conservative than McCain. It would have been strategically very smart as well as the right thing to do. I thought in the USA elections was by the people rather than the number of counties or parishes. If you look at a population map you will also note where the population resides. A little further checking and you will also note several big cities has a larger population than some of the states. Now this is the facts, elections by the people.
The article is right on, very very true. What most people don’t understand, especially the ‘Democrats’, is that government over-regulation and unionism coercion has driven the rich with their businesses and factories overseas where they have cheaper labor, less regulation, and less taxes, so what they produce can be competitive with the rest of the worlds industry. So now you can say good bye to the jobs and tax base permanently, for those rich don’t have to pay taxes on their profit from overseas either, a double whammy for the tax base. Unless you can correct the problems mentioned above, you won’t be able to entice them back to the U.S., especially when Obama promises to raise taxes on the rich only, to support his massive ‘Health Care Law’ and other social programs he is trying to get passed to buy the vote of greedy people who think they can get something for free. Most people are to dumd to realize that all the tariffs (to protect the Unions) and the ‘Cap and Trade Law’, with its massive tax increase on all carbon based energy (which is 90% of the energy used in the U.S.) coming down the pyke, is actually increased taxes on the poor by raising the of cost on tires, gasoline and clothing that the rich can easily afford, but not so with the poor and middle class. Who do you think consumes the most of these things that are increasing in cost because of the governments actions, not the rich.

What is missed in one person’s reply, about how the “red” areas with agrarian capitalism would outlast “blue” industrial statism, is that Stalin got around this by eliminating the capitalists, rural or urban, and redistributing resources based on loyalty, what welfare does in watered down version in otherwords, instead of tax dollars, they will be diverting food, water (flood the valleys), energy (hydropower, flood out the rednecks TVA style) resouces maybe even land (ruralification of the urban poor, not housing for native rural poor, they are being replaced with foreign migrant laborers). I’m not saying it was a success in Russia, but they were able to do it. If the truth about the famine in potato blight in the British Isles in the first half the 19th century is carefully studied, it was their taxation and government policies that made families depend on potatoes to live. Right now people are not just turning lawns into vegetable gardens, they are fencing in the frontyards and raising calves, I find that very telling of rural America’s true condition. To protect the food supply and help rural America, allow anyone to do temporary crop work, whether on disability, unemployment, welfare, deadbeat dads, etc. and pocket the money, my bet is it would draw them back into the workforce and give them references. Food could be the next manufactured crisis and nationalization target.

I loved seeing this comment in the newsletter. There is only one problem. See, the blue when they run low on food will round up and shoot the red farmers and put blue people in their place. Of course, the blue people will be supported by government to do everything and are not used to government forcing them to be productive and they will likely be rounded up and shot when they either don’t work hard enough or resist working…. Hmm, I think this has been done before. Oh yeah, I thought I read somewhere, someone claimed that the USSR once rounded up the farmers and shot them because they were capitalists and the capitalist, land owners were supposed to be evil. Then when they had troubles with the people they gave the land to for the purpose of farming for the “greater good” of society, well, they shot them too. At least, that is what I read someone claiming to have happened. So, we should see that here?
Resorting back to your example, in the end, the reds still win even with the scenario above. Why? Because after the blues are done killing each other off, it is the reds who have the work ethics to provide for their families. And since the blues typically strip money from the reds to support the blues, you have to figure that the reds on average work hard enough to provide for themselves and some.
When conservatives try to communicate with liberals, we conservatives must understand that we are trying to talk to educated idiots.

So Linda, if Gore got more votes than Bush did, why did he give up and give in? He did not get more votes, read up before you make claims that are not true. If you will actually bother to check the facts, you’ll see that the final recount put Bush ahead by 500 votes total for the state of Florida.

If the liberals in the media had not broadcast that Gore won in Florida BEFORE the polls closed there, the conservatives who turned around and went home without voting would have been counted.

When you say “early” you do realize they called for Gore just 10 minutes before the polls closed. It’s a fair bet that most anyone who was going to vote in those last minutes were already at the polls and unlikely to be listening to the news.
This was a major part of the protest from the Gore campaign. The results were in direct opposition to the exit polls, suggesting the possibility of election tampering. Given that Florida’s secretary of State, Katherine Harris was the state’s head of the Bush campaign, the thought was not much of a stretch. Let us not forget how she illegally purged 90,000 voters, mostly Democrats based on a “felon list” that erroneously listed people who shared names or past addresses with actual felons.

Please, before YOU tell people to get an education first, go back and proofread your post, check for grammar mistakes, punctuation errors and just plain old incorrect facts, and then fix them. Oh, sure, Buster! By your argument, liberals are just copying conservatives. If this were true, there would be no difference; conservatives would be pleased. And liberals, sore winners! So, who’s the idiot?!
The past doesn’t matter? Are you nuts? Without looking at the past how will we ever understand how we got here and how to fix it. Can I name an election the Republicans stole? Sure, both Bush wins. Florida was clearly a hatchet job by Katherine Harris (as noted above) and Ohio in 2004 where they were caught taking ballots out the back door.
Does this mean that I believe that Republicans steal elections and Democrats are pure and Honest? Of course not. Elections have been rigged by both parties over the years, and that’s why we need to learn from the past. Given the chance, someone in power will do whatever they can to stay in power. Knowing this, how can anyone accept the paperless touch screen election machines? Why just month we saw Alvin Green, as aptly named a person as you could ever hope to find winning an election that was questionable at best. Countless voters complained that the screen displayed the wrong name when they voted, but what could they do? To suggest that this was a fair election is to say that the dumbest and least responsible voters are all living in SC! Here was a man with no experience, no campaign, no platform and no name recognition. Are we to believe that the majority of Democrats in SC walked into the booth, looked at the candidates list and said “hey, here’s a guy I’ve never heard of before. Says he’s an unemployed ex soldier. WHY NOT?!” This should be a warning to all voters that we must demand campaign reform.
Let’s get the facts straight. If you read the article, it was about how to WIN the coming election, not how to complain. Bingo. In the second comment on this article, it was a Progressive who started complaining about previous elections.

Both the Republicans and the Democrats Have destroyed this country and the economy, regardless of which party is in power the country keeps heading down hill. The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. The only candidate in the last presidential election who would have been acceptable to the founding fathers was Ron Paul who happened to be a Republican and his own party worked to defeat him, their both against constitutional government. Wake up people, both parties are the same, the best way to win a horse race is to own BOTH horses.

The reason that we have an electoral college system is because it is almost impossible to manipulate the process ir operates by. Whereas the popular vote is easily manipulated to get a desired result. I suggest you people get educated on how the presidental election process works.
Since elections can be manipulated, ala Acorn, electoral votes can be manipulated. Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington have adopted the new national popular vote basis for awarding electors instead of the state’s popular vote. California, Rhode Island, and Vermont have also officially adopted it but haven’t avoided their governors’ vetoes as of yet.

The founding fathers had the task of getting the various states to unite under a common government. To achieve that task they needed a contract to assure the states that they would not be run over by the Federal Government. Part of that was the establishment of electors for the election of a President. This was done so that the less populous states wouldn’t be run over by the high population density states. If that hadn’t been promised under the Constitution, the low-population states probably would not have joined the Union.

The Supreme Court did indeed require a full recount, but the majority decided that there was not enough time and so stood behind then Secretary of State Harris and gave the election to Bush.
As for the recount, there were several. The first, run by the Miami Herald and USA today found that Bush would have won if, under all but the most generous standards they had counted just the counties requested. It was the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, hired by a news consortium that did a recount of disputed ballots from ALL districts. There goal was to determine the reliability and accuracy of the systems used for the voting process. As a result they found that Florida’s system was inconsistent in it’s method of addressing disputed ballots. Had the ballots in question from all districts been addressed in ANY sort of consistent manner, Gore would have received over 100 more votes that Bush.

You’ve missed the whole point, Linda.
First, the article is not saying that the election of 2008 was numerical fraud. It is saying that by and large, urban centers tended to vote for Obama because urban populations tend to attract more of those who want government to supply answers to their problems. That part of the population gravitates toward mass transit, civil service jobs, and government subsidized relief programs. Naturally, they are more likely to vote for a candidate that promises to sustain that style of government response to social problems, and 2008 was no exception to that.
Because urban areas are by definition more populous, the voting map shows that although Obama did win by a fair margin according to the votes cast, by land area, in contrast, conservatives preside in most of the country by far. This shouldn’t surprise anyone. Conservatives, in general, live further away from urban centers because they:
(1 want the most property their hard earned money can buy because they have an owner’s mentality. Real estate is cheaper the further away from cities that it is. Conservatives, in a land of opportunity, would rather own a house and a car than rent a flat next to the bus line. They’re funny like that.
2) want to live where there are lower taxes, since they pay them, and out of money they earn. Smaller cities and rural communities, as a rule, have lower taxes than big cities.
And don’t give me your tired line about how I don’t understand poor people. I am responsible for a wife and two daughters and I earned a total of $12,000 in 2010. I have made more than $25,000 in 3 of the last 25 years.
Moving along, the article is stating that if this trend continues as is, the voting public that does live in urban areas, as it becomes more dependent on government help to survive, will dominate future elections, especially if illegal immigrants are given amnesty and eventually allowed to vote, because they are naturally going to vote for those who would allow them to have the most rights in a country where they were neither born, invited, or earned the right to participate. When this happens, there will be no hope for this country to return to its foundational principles. Thus, the author appeals to readers to get more involved in the process.
Secondly, in 2000, Al Gore won the popular vote by 543,895. That’s not a lot in 101,000,000 votes. In fact, it’s about .5%, or 1/200 of all the votes cast in that election. It is one of the slimmest margins, in percentage of votes cast, in U.S. presidential election history. Leave it to a Gore supporter to color one of the closest such races in American history as an overturned landslide.
Thirdly, of course conservatives were not complaining because their guy (or so they thought) won in the end. Why would they complain? Would you have complained if Gore had won by a court ruling?

In addition, you have no “option” about possible statistical manipulation of votes in the 2000 presidential election. You might have an opinion, although you wouldn’t know the word for it, but who would listen anyway to someone who can’t write a commentary of four consecutive error-free sentences?

Linda, while it is true that people should indeed pay careful attention to all relevant statistics in any situation (especially pertaining to a matter as important as liberty vs tryanny), the point of the article is that–for the most part–the takers voted for the community agitator-in-chief, while producers voted for McCain/ Palin.
Many of us lamented that McLame wasn’t nearly conservative enough, but consoled ourselves and each other with the hope that Sarah could influence policy decisions. She has integrity, and a decent track record of reining in government spending on such royal perqs as chefs, airplanes, and salaries. What we complain about is that the greedy, lazy, and un-/misiinformed are allowed to override our conscientious, deliberate attempts to reclaim and maintain our Divinely endowed rights. Please remember that America was founded by and for people who cherish freedom and are determined to pass that legacy of opportunity to our children and theirs. Many hundreds of thousand of valiant, courageous, selfless men bled, sweated, wept, starved, and froze to secure those natural, unalienable rights for us. It is our sacred duty to demonstrate our gratitude by continuing the vigil. Millions sacrifice to come here (many illegally, unfortunately) to embrace the remaining freedoms we still enjoy. There is no law prohibiting the misguided (who don’t appreciate INdependence) from leaving. There are plenty of countries where statism already has a tight stranglehold on their citizens (or subjects). There are certainly those who need it legitimately and have earned it. My guess, and it’s only that, is that 80% of that 40% are just working the system……taxes, social security and the welfare system are already such an amazing disgrace, and this ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT president wants more of our income. Patsy, I’m a Republican also, maybe more of an Independent, but I have to disagree with you on the Earned Income Credit. In order to qualify for this credit, you have to work. Most low paid legal American workers work much harder than the higher paid workers. The higher paid workers are the managers and business owners sitting at a desk in the A/C while the minimum wage earners sweat like pigs in hot warehouses and out in the fields and are the actual producers. You should point your anger at the Democrats living on Food Stamps, Medicaid and Unemployment Insurance. And also at the Union workers who make three times the value of their labor. China and India don’t have Unions, that’s why they lead us in production. I know the economy is bad, but people need to take whatever job is available, even if it only pays 1/3 of what they were making. I’ve never been unemployed in the 40 years that I’ve been working and I have to change jobs all the time. I get laid off, fired and sometimes I quit, but there’s always another job no matter how bad the economy is. When the economy is good, I make $15 per hour, when it’s bad I make $8 per hour.
All politicians that campaign and run for office MUST have proof that they paid their taxes, too. And if they are not current on their taxes, then they cannot run for office. Simple as that.

I don’t have the answer. I don’t know what is in store for all of us. But I do have a gut feeling it is not good and it makes me mad. I am mad at the politicians that have corrupted our government. I believe taking back the schools is a key for future survival. Also we cannot allow amnesty as it will lead to citizenship and more social programs. The Federal law needs to be enforced as it stands. To do these things it is crucial to secure both parties in congress in November. Once that is done Republicans need to know their jobs are on the line if they do not do the right thing. Then it is crucial to get rid of Obama so he cannot appoint anymore activist judges. I am the only one in my family, daughters, spouse, inlaws, that have my eyes open. Why do they think Democrats will keep big business in check, but don’t see the ramifications of immigrants, and those riding the gravy train to benefits, “getting their reward for their ancestors suffering racial discriminiation”, those who bring their family from middle eastern countries, live in big houses, but put their mother, father, grandmother, grandfather on medi-cal but won’t suffer under the need for more taxes, to a country who punishes those who rise to the top, provide services, products, employment? It just seems so clear. The churches just see compassion, and that everyone needs to be taken care of; are we just in a politically correct dilemma, in that in the name of love and compassion, the state must provide everything, and in essence, so should each of us, irregardless of those that don’t or won’t grow up and take responsibility for themselves and their children. I don’t understand women that will sleep with men, often children from different boyfriends that provides them with offspring, don’t marry them, so that uncle sam can provide for them, while the boyfriend at the time lives in his own house? Mothers and Fathers, you have the ultimate responsibility in being the role model for those around you. Stand up, grow up, work hard. Everyone around you is watching, making decisions on how the world works, and how they can make it, demonstrating to the next generation how to get on in the world. To each one of us, challenge yourself to be the best you can be; get the coach or team support that gets you to another rung in the ladder. I use the internet, primarily to get information on issues not mentioned in the main stream media, then go to the library. With the help of the Librarians, I do my own research, rather than relaying on someonelses sources!

We have,clearly and often, seen that even the Bible, when taken out of context, can be used to justify the most grievious deeds! The Library allowes that context to be maintained!!
This is a very interesting article, mostly because it shows that “facts” and statistics can be used to prove whatever you want.
Let’s take a look at this map another way. If you break up the states by the amount of money paid to the federal gvt. and what they get back (per cap. 2005) you’ll find that the top 10 are mostly red. With the exception is New Mexico, which has been #1 from 1981-2005 (the chart range) all others are notably red. In fact 16 of the top 20 are significantly red (75% or better.)
What about those who get the least? Only two, #49-Nevada and #44-Delaware are predominantly red while the rest have larger blue areas of 50% or more (#48 & 47 are about 100% blue.)
So what’s all this about the Liberals sucking off the government teats? Tell me again about how the hard working conservatives of middle america paying the way for the rest of us?

During that time someone in power looked at things like re-apportionment and soon the voting districts began to look like jigsaw puzzles. “It’s not fair to this pocket of republican voters over here!” “Well what about the Democrats in this region?”
Perhaps you’ll recall the Texas debacle. Redistricting was done, as per law following the 2000 census. The legislature, led by the Democrats could not come to an agreement, so the job passed to the legislative redistricting board (LRB). But in 2003 when Texas voted in a Republican majority, Tom Delay pushed for another round of redistricting. Thought the law called for a review after each Census, there was no law against doing it any other time, so the Republicans took advantage of the moment. Soon they were lumping Democratic districts together to reduce their representation, and then splitting some off to create more Republican districts.
This sort of gerrymandering has gone on for years. It’s just one more example of what’s wrong with our 2 party system. Either party, if they have enough power can show why things should be tipped in their favor. Each party has used their power to change elections in their favor. So go ahead and tell me your stories about the crimes of the “Demorats” and pretend that the Republicans were innocents in the woods. We can both turn the facts to prove we’re right.

Obama had nothing to do with it. And Soros? Well, one of his companies does stand to make money, but they SOLD $22 million in voting shares and bought 5 million in NON-VOTING shares. They REDUCED their stake in the company! Those who listen to Beck will likely never hear about this from his show, but will continue to spread these lies to a suspicious public intent on proving that “the Kenyan in the white house” is out to get us.

As for the research, I know I will find the same “facts” if I use only those sources noted by Beck and his team, which is why I look further for the truth. This information comes from the Ex-Im bank its self, so Beck is either taking advantage of the timing to suggest wrong doing by Obama, or his research team has dropped the ball again.

If those who were misrepresented, maligned and misquoted sued every time Beck, Hannity or Rush pulled some “facts” from their butts, the courts would have time for little else. Debunking the conspiracy theories of these talking heads requires little effort.

The officials who approved this loan were not appointed by Obama, but by Bush. The only member of the board nominated by Obama is the chairman, and he was not nominated until a week AFTER the loan was given preliminary approval. Most of the Ex-Im banks financing comes from loan guarantees made by commercial lenders, not tax dollars. They do not answer to the president or the congress, so there was no need for Obama to “sign an order” to loan this money.

- Do away with congressional retirement. They don’t need to stay so long that they can retire.
Before each session of congress (on the very first day), in a mandatory joint session along with the President and cabinet, require the reading out loud of the entire constitution (emphasizing the Bill of Rights) and when done, make all present stand up and swear to protect and defend what they just heard. This ssesson should be done in prime time and shown on every network just like the State of the Union speech.
I agree with most of your wish list. However, it was the republicans that caused most of the mess that we are in now, I do not agree that we should put them back in power.

How do you come to the conclusion that Republicans are responsible for 75 % of our debt? Correct me if I am wrong, but the Democrats have controlled both houses of the legislature since the 1940′s. It is the legislature that passes budgets and controls spending, not the President. This includes the time that Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, G.H.W. Bush, and since 2006 G.W. Bush were President. The Republicans gained control of the legislature in 1994 through 2006. You need to check your facts before making such outlandish claims. I think the Republicans (many of them RINOS) lost their way around 2000. Still, I believe they are the part of fiscal conservatism. Don’t look for some miracle third part. Get involved at the grass roots level and commucicate with those you choose to put in office.

GREAT wish list, valricoslash! May I add the Departments of Transportation, Energy and IRS? All assets will be sold towards the national debt. And the immediate suspension of any further immigration until we get our economic house in order (that is bring down our unemployment to at least 5% and abolish all taxes except ONE 10% sales tax) unless the immigrant can prove full financial independence (which Australia already does)!!! Also, all illegal resident aliens be driven to the border without any benefits, after processing documentation, with the understanding they will have a MANDATORY five year prison sentence if they return anytime in their future. Most importantly, build a double fence topped with razor wire, booby trapped in between with explosives and warning signs in ENGLISH only, complete with armed guard towers every mile or so. If strings were attached to some of the so called entitlements that the democrats love to hand out, I think more parity would be seen between the voters. If people were expected to work for handouts a dramatic drop in greed loyalty would be enjoyed.
But the strings are already there. The only problem is, we may see them but our neighbors seem to refuse to open their eyes, or even if their eyes are open, they refuse to accept or confront the problem. Sure seems to be a lot of dodging to step over and around those strings. Some strings come with the price of changing our way of thinking. I hear “charitable conservatives” and my definition is so far different than what I read. My definition: private charity and private welfare (they did exist before government took over the market in welfare). Common definition today: government charity amd government welfare. Oh, I so wanted to cry and scream when I read an article that we need a resurgence in charitable conservatives in public office and then they defined it. When I read their definition, I wanted to say, “that IS the thinking of progressives! Sure, some of them we do not trust and are inclined to believe they are out to conquer America, but most of those led along by their rhetoric actually are people who care about their neighbor, the sick, the afflicted, and the less fortunate. The problem isn’t that they care. The problem is that the path they are pursuing does not include freedom in the end and quite often fails to help those they claim to care about.” I am all for charitable conservatives. But I don’t want government charity when I lose my job, my home, and my food. I want private charity.
So while some strings come in the altering our way of thinking as a people, other strings come with prices not yet due. For example, as those of us who actually ponder where the future is and look to the past all around us to consider the price for our choices as a nation, we see that those who are getting this “free” money WILL have to work for it in the end. It will not be free in the final reckoning. Except the cost will be far higher then as opposed to what it is now. The end cost is that they will NOT have the choice to work or not work when the bill comes due. There will be no more OTHERS to pay for their wants and needs. EVERYONE will be poor, except the elites who control it all (the politicians who sell us the idea of the communal goodness). You will be told to work and you will HAVE to work, or become an enemy of the state that once sold you the FREE handouts. You will work the job government tells to work. You will do it for the wages government tells you can have. You will get the benefits that government tells you are entitled to when they tell you are entitled to them (waiting lists anyone?). By the way, isn’t it interesting that government has been passing bills that gives our President the potential power into businesses such that this could be reality so much so that businesses could be private businesses in name only. Power into our banks. The potential to evaluate and control our wages/compensation. Power into our loans. Isn’t that so very interesting? Those of us willing to look could see the strings. And now it looks like the framework is going into place. The only question now is how soon until the framework becomes a real nightmare machine turned on and oppressing those who once turned to government for all they perceived government should control and give them. Yes, it costs a lot to run a war (or two), but Bush kept those numbers out of the budget. We didn’t need to ramp up our defense spending like that. Bush was looking for ways to fix his mistakes and everyone knows that a war is a great way to get people working, right? So you invade a country that was not involved, you hire private companies to do the work of the military. Since they are friends of yours you pay them 30 times (or more) what it would cost to have your military do the job. You disenfranchise your soldiers by making them work along side your private soldiers earning 3,4 even 5 times more pay, while you crow about your commitment to “our brave young men and women.” You talk about listening to you leaders in the field, but when they disagree with you you fire them, one after another after another.
In the mean time, you deregulate business, oversee corruption in the banking, housing and energy industries. You spend and spend on your useless war (useless unless you are an oil or defense company) running the country into the ground. You suggest bail outs for the home auto industry, but hold off to let the next administration take the hit. You insist that we give the banks billions of dollars “or they will fail tomorrow!” And then you pass your whole mess on to the next administration.

It’s important to remember that the budget begins in October, so much of the “2009″ deficit was set into play under the Bush administration. Also not that the Bush administration had a habit of leaving things out of the budget. Cost of war? We’ll ask for that later. Disaster funds? Why put it in the budget until we have a disaster? Money for the bank bailout? We aren’t asking for it yet, and if we need it we’ll find a way to pay for it then. Oh, and don’t forget “borrowing” $500 billion from Social Security to help pay for his tax cuts. I hate to see the deficit so high, but at least I know that things like defense spending for the war won’t be snuck in later.

However, I submit for your consideration that high IQ and common sense are two different things, as evidenced in many political and professional types who are lacking in common sense. I’ve lived in red states and in blue states and am acquainted with many professors, bureaucrats and rednecks. It’s the rednecks who are more likely to know which end is up and, more significantly for this discussion, to know when they’ve been had. Also, rednecks are more adept at solving problems than in creating them, and the converse is also generally true; that is, “brilliant” people are quite adept at creating problems but not very good in solving them.

Last year it was “spouted” out all over the place at 50 something percent. Where does this number come from? I tried to find the original source last year (5?%) and now this year (45%). I would really like to know, because as poor as my hubby and I have been we have NEVER gotten back more than we paid in, in federal income tax.

You say that you never “got back more than you paid in”. But IF you received a refund of all that you paid in, then you paid NO income tax. So if during the year you had $2500.00 in taxes withheld from your pay check and you got a $2500.00 refund when you filed your taxes, you paid NONE.
And IF you are “butt poor” as you put it, then you probably claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit. I think it’s called Advanced EIC now in which case you actually have the government pay you for being poor.

I couldn’t have summarized this sitation any better. We need “to clean house,” and get rid of the “old guard” in Washington. Our president, sad to say, does not understand, or want to understand, his role, and he has had the experience to qualify him for his position. We still do not know if he is an Amercian Ciitizen. He certainly does not act like an American. He does not follow our American traditions, and he does not carry out the will of the American people.
From what I have learned Obama was not raised in the US. The majority of his life was out of the country. and, while he was growing up he was exposed to Socialism by his parents, grandparents and their associates–even his mentor was a Socialist. The Constitution is a contract between the government and the people,laying out rules….that the government agreed to abide by. The Constitution was written to keep the government within certain constraints…it says what the government can and cannot do (nothing more, nothing less).Of course the government will try to interpret it in a way that lets them get around the rules that they are bound by under said contract….
