Study Shows Probiotics May Help Weight-loss Surgery Patients

Vitamin B12 deficiency is a common side effect of gastric bypass surgery, but according to a new study supplementation with probiotics may help patients avoid the problem.
The research was completed at Stanford University School of Medicine where scientists enrolled 44 individuals who had undergone a weight-loss surgery. Their results suggest that patients who received a probiotic supplement everyday for three months following the procedure had higher levels of vitamin B12 than the control group.
Vitamin B12 is a key compound that ensures healthy metabolism, proper formation of red blood cells and the well-being of the central nervous system
In addition, the researchers found that the treated patients experienced a nearly 48 percent weight loss compared with a 38.5 percent loss in those who received a placebo.
Statistics suggest that nearly 66 percent of adult Americans are overweight.
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria strains that are known to aid in digestion. They can be found in yogurt and other cultured milk products as well as miso, some juices and soy beverages or nutritional supplements.

I am sick and tired of all the hype of America being dependent on foreign oil. The best oil in the world is West Texas Sweet Oil. It is sold overseas and America does not get to use any of it at all. It is sold overseas for a high price per barrel and then the oil companies buy foreign oil for less money.
This, in turn, they use as a ploy to say that America is dependent on foreign oil.
Also have anyone of you gone through the panhandle of Oklahoma and seen the idle wells that have been shut down? or how about all the idle wells in Wyoming north of Cheyenne as far as you can see that are idle.
Give me a break. There are two factors that create high prices: idle wells and Wall Street. And a third one: no new drilling; environmentalist, government regulation, oil corporporation procrastination.
The Best way we can reduce weight, and keep it off, is by Semi-Fasting. Which is Chewing your food, and sucking the juice out of it, and then just drop the bulk out of your mouth, and give it to the dog, or the birds or squirrels outside. You can control most all diseases, by Fasting, as Bacteria and Viruses, and even cancer cells, can’t live without protein, and they will starve to death within 7 days.
Please don’t tell The Medical Industrial Complex or the CDC, they will make a prescription Drug, Fasting! The Simple Cure for all Flu. Nasal B-12 up the nose, kills Flu virus on contact!
This sounds so interesting! I have been on probiotics…don’t need to lose weight but, it keeps me healthy inside. Also, I have no material gain with this comment but, try a product called Immune Extra from Allera Health. It is all natural and is now given to cancer patients…it supports the immune system. I have not had a flu or cold for two years since taking it. If you are starting to feel sick take 2/3 or the tablets and zap! Gone!

Mickey Brown,
While I do agree with most of your comments, I’m not sure what they have to do with the topic of the article (probiotics and weight loss surgery)?
