Study: One In Three Chronic Pain Sufferers Use Alternative Therapies

May 3, 2010 by Personal Liberty News Desk

Study: One in three chronic pain sufferers use alternative therapiesAccording to a new University of Michigan Health System study, more than one-third of adult patients who experience chronic pain are utilizing complementary and alternative medicine therapies to help alleviate the symptoms.

For the study, lead author Carmen Green, professor of health management and policy at the university, and her colleagues monitored 5,750 adults who were being treated for chronic pain over a six-year period. They found that 35 percent of respondents reported having used at least one form of complementary and alternative medicine therapy, with manipulation techniques, biofeedback and acupuncture being the most popular.

The research team also discovered that race and age played a large role in the utilization of alternative therapies. The techniques were most commonly used by older, more educated Caucasians with higher income levels. However, the study’s authors admitted that this disparity may be due to the differences in insurance coverage.

Green concluded that complementary and alternative medicine therapies are helpful, but should always be signed off on by a physician before being employed.

"Unfortunately patients are often reluctant to share information regarding alternative therapy usage with healthcare providers, but discussions and awareness of alternative therapy use in pain patients may improve the quality of pain care and patient safety," she noted.

Folks, if you have pain’s try – H2 O2 – {35% food grade ONLY,} (Not what you buy in the drug store.)
Use it as noted, you will have zero pain in less than 2 weeks, but the key is to keep at it. I do one 8 oz glass per day with 6 drops of H2 O2.

This will not harm you if done right. Don’t use more as more is not better.

My Mother suffers from chronic pain, constantly takes medicines including tramadol, fentynal patch, tylenol, ativan, etc. some pain is real, from adhesions, but much of it, addiction.. She just spoke with a doctor she has not seen in 20 years. i am at my wits end from running her to doctors.

I am astounded at your comments. How do you know your mother takes pain meds because she is addicted? I deal with several pain issues and let me tell you, they are real. It’s too bad that you can’t trade places with your mom for just a day. I’m sorry you are “at your wits end” with her but if you could just imagine how it feels to be in pain all the time, you’d see that she is at ther wits end, too

  3. Larry, you need to check with several modalities, such as a Holistic
Chiropracter, A Naturopath also. Usually western medicine, only knows
how to use chemical drugs, that do not get to the underlying causes.
In fact, all that mom is on, is really taking her down and elminating
nutrients that she needs, causing a toxic condition all over her body.

Serrapeptase is an enzyme from the silk worm — it eats up any non living matter inside you. That means all inflammation and any kind of scar tissue. It is amazing! Try it, but must be taken on a totally empty stomach about 3 times a day. It is a fantastic way to get rid of chronic pain. If you are severe you would have to take quite a bit in the beginning and then slowly go down in dose.

  5. I guess the study is on point on some factors. More often than not, alternative therapies are sought by people with access to various resources, or I guess the whole insurance findings is reflective of this too.
