Obama may send more troops to Afghanistan
September 4, 2009 by Personal Liberty News Desk
A new report from the commander of the U.S. troops in Afghanistan may force President Obama to increase troops levels in Afghanistan for the second time this year, according to media speculation.
Although its details are classified, the report written by General Stanley McChrystal is believed to contain an assessment of the situation in Afghanistan that many see as deteriorating, according to MercuryNews.com.
Queried by reporters on Monday, White House secretary Robert Gibbs said that "there’s broad agreement that for many years our effort in Afghanistan has been under-resourced politically, militarily and economically," which has been widely interpreted as leaving the door open to sending in more troops, in addition to the 21,000 the administration ordered earlier this year.
However, Obama may also face fierce opposition as anti-war groups have started to voice their discontent once again, after having been relatively silent since his election.
Nancy Lessin, a founder of Military Families Speak Out, says many feel betrayed by Obama who promised to scale down U.S. involvement in the Middle East during his electoral campaign.
She believes "there are powerful forces pushing the president to stay on this course and we have to build a more powerful movement to change that course."
Kansas City Star reports the anti-war movement is preparing a nationwide campaign this fall to challenge the administration’s policies on Afghanistan.
According to iCasualty.org, August was the deadliest month for U.S. soldiers since the beginning of the war, with 49 losing their lives.

Comrade obama didn’t merely promise to scale back our presence. He said he’d get our troops OUT. Is it not FUNNY how the transition from the Senate to the White House has made comrade obama a ‘changed’ man? Does he have a memory problem? Does he have to write down his promises so he won’t FORGET? Which promises are IMPORTANT?
His handlers seem to be looking for another Vietnam (you can fight, but you aren’t allowed to win). Has b o considered an exit strategy? Is b o using the same soldier-killing ‘rules of engagement’ that made Vietnam such a waste?
So many questions need to be asked. Is comrade obama in a question-answering mood? Does he really care, or is he merely pleasing his foreign masters at America’s mounting expense?
SC,
Do you know of any campaign promises that he has kept?
DaveH, I’m not sure, because I don’t have comrade obama’s photographic memory or his deep intellectual gifts. It seems to me that he may have said he’d keep us out of any wars on the moon, but I’m not completely sure. If he did say that, then he can certainly claim that he has kept at least one campaign promise – so far, that is.
Other than that, keeping promises of any sort seems to beyond him.
Everytime I see Robert Gibbs doing his press conference appearances from the White House, I see only arrogance and a brown-noser. He tries to smooth things over, but can’t answer the tough questions. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Barry either lied, or is in over his head, or both. We have a President who apologizes to all our enemies, makes rash decisions, and has no experience whatsoever for the job he has. It is not surprising that his approval rate continues to drop. It is sad to think our administration is now the domestic enemy!
Robin, comrade obama is using czars as part of a proxy scheme. Comrade obama, who specialized in saying ‘present’ in the Senate – as opposed to taking a stand and voting yes or no – thinks he can appoint people to UNELECTED, unconstitutional positions of power (and then cherry-pick the ones he wants to keep). Van Jones is an example of someone who couldn’t make comrade obama look good, so he’s gone (thank God).
Comrade obama thinks he is immune from decisions made by UNELECTED, unconstitutional czars. These kooks are accountable only to him. Therefore, he CAN”T distance himself from their behavior. A prez who subverts the Constitution might as well be working for a hostile foreign government.
Being rid of Van Jones is one small victory for freedom. One down, and many to go! Who’s next in comrade obama’s rogue’s gallery?
I thought he was going to bring our troops home, but evidently he forgot he said it. I SAY BRING OUR TROOPS HOME OR SEND US ALL BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
David, comrade obama is an ultralib – or worse. Words mean nothing to him. He’s re-defines words on a daily basis. He’s also a career politician. He sees no reason to have a functional memory.
He can always rely on talking heads to ‘explain’ and defend what he said. The ‘mainstream’ media adores him (barf!).
People like comrade obama always have long lines of faithful, useful idiots to do their bidding. People like comrade obama can depend on a George Soros for unlimited resources.
To comrade obama’s zombies, he can do no wrong. They may seem him as a demi-god. They can have him. They deserve him.
America has never deserved anyone like comrade obama.
The sending of more troops may be a necessary thing but if you have unrealistic goals and rules of engagement then you surely will get more men killed, undermine the credibility with the surrounding villagers, this will lead to the left’s nagging and whinning to become a news item that will make the MSM insanely happy. This seems to be the distinct aim of this leftist group in the Whitehouse, I believe they want to lose but on their terms to create more havoc for their agenda…so far his using of the FDR economic playbook is working, we will be in financial straits a lot longer than we expect to be.
If B.O. is pro American, then ask yourself, what more could he do to prove he was not.
Vietnam became Johnson’s war and downfall. Afghanistan is Obama’s war. I would not be a soldier in Obama’s war since Obama and the people he appoints do not have the experience to win. Obama is a liberal love/peace/justice misguided anti-war radical. He must think it’s a joke that he actually is the commander in chief. Unfortunately the Generals, Commanders and soldiers KNOW it’s a joke, but no one is laughing.
Well John, what might be unfortunate is that he has a Republican Sec. of Defense running the show, with two Republican Generals. Maybe you should take it up with them? Since they have all been there since the beginning, I really don’t see where you get the idea that they have no experience? Why would you consider anyone who is anti war misguided? God, help us if we ever get another war loving ego manic like Cheney close to the office again.
My thoughts from seeing my towers collapse. Was on Wall Street when they were being built. Across the river when they were attacked. As far as I’m concerned, we should have gone into Afghanistan, killed the Taliban and captured bin laden dead or alive. Then just leave that cesspool with this warning “You do it again and we’ll make sure your country is one big hole”. Time to get the job done and get out. Those nut jobs on the other side of the ocean will never get along with anyone. Just kill them all and let God sort them out.
Bush and his attack dog(dog is a kind word)Cheney got us into a war that should have never happened in Iraq. Afghanistan which was the training ground for muslim extremists was put on the back burner. Now Obama is stuck with the job of trying to right the wrongs of the last 8 years. The Bushidiots can’t quite understand reallity. I guess if you can blame Obama for the economy, you might as well blame him for the war.
The truth is when America leaves the area, be it now or later, the religious fanatics will take over and we will be stuck with the cost in lives and dollars, having accomplished nothing. Kind of like Viet Nam.
Norm, sad isn’t? Today, I saw pictures of the Viet Nam war, broke my heart all over again.
Norm,
I agree with your last paragraph. So why doesn’t Obama get us out of there? And why don’t you and Eyes put any blame on him for not doing so? When you blindly support a party on every issue, you greatly undermine your credibility to others on this board.
Dave, they do have a time table for Iraq, based on the General’s input. Hey, wasn’t it the Repubs who before the election were stating that we had to stay even tho the Iraq’s didn’t want us too? Obama, kept the Republican Sec. of Defense from Bush’s admin, and that still doesn’t make any of you happy? Afgan, will be his waterloo, as if we leave Pakistan will probably fall.. But if you all are willing,to risk a nuke attack, count me in. Why not, couldn’t be any worse than losing slowly.
I guess you think there are easy answers for these two wars? If so please call up the Pentagon and advise them now. Don’t hold back. Maybe because of the military, I feel as though we should support our troops and their Commander. I personally think Obama should tell the American people he will only be in office for four yrs and try to fix this horrible mess of a country and leave. Then the Repubs will have to try and clean up some of their own messes…like this war.
I also think that our economy should have been his priority and that’s what he tackled first. Aren’t you blindly defending the Repub’s ?? Sure seems so, and you attack relentlessly, so where is your credibility?
if he sends more troops over i will be pissed
tomorrow my bday btw
Happy Birthday tomorrow.
