New FBI guidelines prompt civil liberty concerns

Some people are not convinced that new guidelines introduced by the FBI in the final weeks of the Bush administration will adequately protect American’s civil liberties.
The standards set out what agents can and cannot do when starting an investigation, including rules about conducting surveillance, utilizing informants and including race or ethnicity as a factor for suspicion.
"These guidelines support the FBI’s mission, emphasizing early detection, prevention and interagency cooperation," an FBI press release stated. The new rules consolidate and replace five previous sets of guidelines for issues such as criminal investigations and foreign intelligence.
According to the American Civil Liberties Union, the new guidelines are overly broad and leave too much room for abuse by authorities.
"The FBI has shown time and time again that it is incapable of policing itself and there is good reason to believe that these guidelines will lead to more abuse," ACLU executive director Anthony D. Romero said in a statement.
And some lawmakers raised concerns about the FBI’s ability to access the private information of average citizens as part of an investigation.
Come on folks. I realize everyone’s afraid of losing their privacy. I am too. But with the way Sens. Obama, Biden, Reis, Kennedy, Schummer, Clinton and Speaker Pelosi and their cronies talk, I’d be more worried about them taking our liberties.
PLEASE . . . LISTEN CAREFULLY to their rhetoric !! There’s two things about their ideas and what they believe is best for America. First, all Americans must realize democracy in it’s truest and basic form is in fact . . . the basis for communism. And second, if the politicians I’ve named aren’t spouting democratic doublespeak, then they are pushing socialism pure and simple. In fact I challenge you to read some of their writings and look at their quotes of others. Those who they quote are for the most part, socialists.

Reparations bill HR 40 apparently was reintroduced this month in Congress.
I call it insanity 101.
Reparations are you kidding me, blaming of this generation for the past mistakes. When does it stop, and how are and who are those that are supposed to pay this. I believe that would be called racial profiling. Do you go through everyone’s social security numbers and determine who’s white and who is not.I believe that would be called racial profiling. How would that look on your paycheck deductions: reparation tax for whites only, and what determines how much this is. What about the other groups in the UNITED States are they exempt except for the whites. Also who exactly are the ones THAT are going to pay. Are they going to track down the ancestors of the slave owners and make them pay, or just blame it all on the white generation. Remember over the years there has been a lot of mixed relationships going on, so that’s just one more thing to consider. Who exactly is who. This is insanity gonna extreme. I would be interested on the intellectual level not an emotion.
My ancestors were all of Russian descent and never owned slaves. Didn’t even know about slaves. They themselves were victims of the Czar’s purges and predjudice. Will I get taxed because I’m white? Ridiculous! It’s interesting that the predjudice of the past may be counteracted with the predjudice of the present. It is labeling me with the mind set of antiquity and trying to legislate change thru law. It’s telling me I’m not who I think I am so others will set me straight. I don’t even havea say in the outcome. I hear the bell of entitlment ringing Does anything ever change?
Anything the ACLU takes a position on needs to be evaluated carefully, since their primary goal seems to be to bring harm to the America we once knew.
That said, the “even a broken clock is right twice a day” saying may apply.
Race or ethnicity cannot be discounted when the criminal activity is based on it; I’ve never heard of a black or anglo MS-13 thug, for instance. And I’m sure that the Klan is lacking in nonwhite members as well.
