HRT elevates ovarian cancer risk, study says

Post-menopausal women who have used hormone replacement therapy (HRT) appear to be at an increased risk of ovarian cancer, according to researchers.
What is more, this seems to hold true regardless of the duration of use, the formulation, estrogen dose, regimen or route of administration.
Danish scientists from Copenhangen University analyzed data from 909,946 women aged 50 through 79 years and concentrated on their pattern of HRT use.
After eight years, a total of 3,068 women were diagnosed with ovarian cancers. However, current users had a 38 percent higher risk of the developing the disease compared with those who never used HRT.
The relative risk of epithelial ovarian cancer, a sub-category of the disease, among current HRT users was 44 percent higher, while previous users had a 15 percent increased risk compared with women who had never used HRT.
The study also found that the risk of both types of cancer did not significantly increase with longer duration of HRT, however it did decline over time after the therapy was discontinued.
In light of such studies, some women have opted for alternative approaches to relieving menopausal symptoms including diet, exercise and nutritional supplements as well as massages and reflexology treatments.

The most important predisposing factor in causing cancer is vitamin D deficiency. If you are interested in vitamin D you should take a look at http://www.vitaminD3world.com The Canadian Cancer Society now recommends that everyone take vitamin D to prevent cancer. The site has good summaries of the data and offers a new preparation of vitamin D in a micro-pill formulation. The pills have been formulated with cellulose which absorbs water very quickly. This ensures that the pill breaks up very quickly to provide for maximum absorption. The micro pill is tiny and tasteless. Many vitamin D pills on the market have very poor dissolution properties resulting in poor absorption.
The site also offers to supply customers with a free supply of 400IU for their children and it also has a good newsletter.
FRANKLY, I’d rather take my chances with HRT. I tried every other treatment for over a year and thought I was going to go insane.* I now know why so many older women were “institutionalized” in the dark ages.
HRT has also been linked to breast cancer. There are herbs that help with menopause instead of the HRT. One herb contains the same properties as one of the femal hormones that helps cause the problems associated with menopause. Another herb is marketed for the aid in hot flashes. I rely on my 3-herb formula to help me keep my menopause symptoms at bay…
