Emergency Preparedness Tips Before Onset Of Winter
October 28, 2009 by Personal Liberty News Desk
As the country gets ready to set the clocks back one hour on November 1, it may be worth remembering that wintertime brings with it a danger of disasters in certain parts of the country for which Americans should be prepared.
Emergencies that have been associated with cold weather include blizzards, floods, blackouts and influenza, but individuals and families may reduce their risks by organizing a stockpile of essential supplies before inclement conditions arrive.
"We already use daylight saving time to focus on preparedness by checking batteries in smoke alarms, so it’s a great time to ensure that we have supplies to fall back on in the event of an emergency," said Georges Benjamin, executive director of the American Public Health Association (APHA).
"Use the extra hour to create a new emergency kit or check your current stockpile for any perishable items that may have expired or canned goods that you may have used," he adds.
APHA also recommends reviewing community emergency preparedness plans, including evacuation routes, emergency shelters and the location of food banks, and updating the family communication plan.
It also suggests collecting medications in one place, and making sure there are enough supplies in case family members need to stay home with the flu for a few days.

As we stand on the brink of becomming a socialist country, driven by a hijacked government and the ignorance of the people who elected them we are thankful for what has become the new free press. Your insite is priceless. With sites like this, talk radio, Fox and others, we will make a noise to the bitter end. thanks.
I got the inner guidance to get my CHL, buy some extra ammo and begin stockpiling food “Mormon style” back at the beginning of the year. It looks like this winter will probably be a hard one both weather-wise and economy-wise. We are already seeing food prices rising… hyperinflation isn’t very far away.
this is a perfect time of year to collect wild gourds.
these were used by natives for many medical tools
so grow them
and since nothing eats the leaves, make leaf tea out of them and use the tea for bug repellent for your crops. works great, have used it for years.
Bill Donze -How interesting – where do you find wild gourds – I’ve never seen them?
I live in NW Missouri – have never seen wild gourds around here – but I DO have seed for gourds – will that work for the tea???? Im at oregonchild54 on yahoo if you would please.
Tea is for your plants as the wild gourd leaf makes a perfect bug repellent for your plants, as well as other uses,
Wild gourd is a small then shell gourd,
many uses, Hope you well

winter is coming indeed! i am going to empty my bank account and buy so much ammo and magic gourds that i shouldn’t have to leave my cave of xenophobia until spring! glenn beck is god!
Silly person! YOu’ve forgotten to buy seed and FOOD!!!
Wild gourds can grow in the desert at about 3300 feet above sea level. Similar to the conditions around and near Tucson, Arizona.
gordo- thanks, nice to know – I’m at 3,000 ft. but no desert area
Gordo – We’re in NM at 5,000 ft elevation…..southwestern desert; I don’t recall ever seeing wild gords in this area, but maybe I have not been paying enough attention. Wonder if the elevation and colder winter temps might prevent them from growing here? Also, just wondering how the tea might taste….
Yuck!!
wild gourd tea is for plants not people
but native did say it could cure cancer, but no
one will test this as it would be a one dollar cure for a billion dollar disease.
Suggestion to fellow survivors: Get plenty of freeze-dried food and canned food in double-enameled cans, store up kindlings and petro jelly with cotton wool AND other fuels, buy or build magnet or solar generator, Heritage seeds and learn how to grow stuff, old manual appliances, have a car that has no electronic/computer parts, save your bicycle. I’ve been thinking this stuff thru for a while. Remember, ONE CHINK IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN, and SERIOUS EVERYTHING SHORTAGES. We’ve all got to learn to be as self sufficient as possible since THAT EXCUSE FOR A PRESIDENT IS RUINING OUR COUNTRY!!
Don’t forget to find out from the book Will YOu Survive? about how to protect your electronics from EMP Pulse which could be launched on a scud missile by terrorist.
Hey FedUpGal: I am an endangered species: I was born in NM. I know all about high altitude and DRY air. And I’m very homesick, too. I miss seeing the gorgeous snow and mountains and cobalt-blue skies. Can I come stay with you? Hah,just kidding.
I work an article some time back you can go to youtube

short film on pesticide Free garden.
see nothing in the bug world eats wild gourd, nothing!
So making a tea out of it, and spraying your plants, crops flowers means the bug will not eat. Now this is not a pesticide for it does not kill but rather is a bug repellent for your plants.
I have hundreds of bugs in my garden, in fact it looks scary but no damage. 13 tomato plants this last year grew 1,000 pounds of tomatoes
if you wish email me and I can send photos, all is free to you and the world. merrry christmas
