DOJ Exonerates Bush Officials Of Criminal Intent In Attorneys’ Firing

July 29, 2010 by Personal Liberty News Desk

DOJ Exonerates Bush Officials Of Criminal Intent In Attorneys’ FiringOne of the longest-running political controversies surrounding the Bush administration appears to be coming to an end as an internal Justice Department investigation (DOJ) revealed that the firing of nine United States attorneys in 2006 was not criminal.

However, the DOJ panel, headed by Nora Dannehy, an assistant U.S. attorney from Connecticut, concluded that the actions were “inappropriate” and politically motivated, casting a shadow on the administration’s legacy.

"Evidence did not demonstrate that any prosecutable criminal offense was committed with regard to the removal of [the prosecutors]," the DOJ letter to lawmakers stated.

However, it made a reference to "an undue sensitivity to politics on the part of DOJ officials who should answer not to partisan politics but to principles of fairness and justice.”

The scandal, which began with the firing of New Mexico U.S. Attorney David Iglesias, who was accused by the head of New Mexico’s Republican Party of being too lenient about voter fraud, led to the resignation of the then U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

In an interview with CNN after the announcement, Gonzales said he was satisfied with the decision, but also angry that he and his family had to go through this process.ADNFCR-1961-ID-19907987-ADNFCR

  1. Joe H. says:

this can’t be!!!! yadda, yadda, yadda, Bush baaaaadd! yadda, yadda, yadda, Bush Meaaaan!!! Yadda, yadda, yadda, Bush crook!!!!!!!

  2. s c says:

Well, at least the retards in Washington can’t claim that ‘Bush did it’ this time. It would be nice if the geniuses at the DOJ would turn their collective attention to protecting the Constitution, and FORCE a certain prez to uphold his farkin’ constitutional oath of office.
With the way progressives think, they’d probably claim that it’s GB’s fault that Herr Obummer can’t figure out how to enforce laws already on the books [especially when it comes to protecting America's borders].

  3. Jim H. says:

A little late for Albero Gonzaless though. Any apologies for the Gonzales family?

  4. Doc Sarvis says:

So President Obama’s DOJ clears the Bush Administration of this accusation. Seems a “blame Bush” Administration would have thrown the book at them. This confirms that President Obama is not the blaming fiend many on this site accuse him of being.

    • Lizzie says:

Hey, Doc, have you been listening to Obummer’s speechifying? EVERYTHING is Bush’s fault! Even now….

      • Doc Sarvis says:

If that were the case he would have found Gonzales guilty.

        • Stan says:

          Hey Doc

Don’t you think they tried, but, they couldn’t put the screws to a honorable man. Obama doesn’t ,need anybody bringing charges against him he does that on his own.

    • Elmer says:

.The reason all this was swept under the rug is Obama is doing the same thing.Every president replaces all the sttorneys and replaces them with their a## kissers.

  5. Ellen says:

Lest we forget — Clinton fired ALL the US Attorneys. What made that okay was that it was Clinton. Once there was an unwritten agreement among presidents that they would not attack prior presidents. But since Obama became president, it has become the norm. Way past blaming Bush for everything. Bush never hid behind closed doors, nor did he push down the throats policies and programs which the majority of citizens opposed.

  6. RAT says:

I can’t believe this went on this long. Washington has become a town of “special investigations”. Besides, I thought Clinton’s firing of all 93 attorneys in 1993 wiped the slate clean for W, but the old double-standard hypocrisy goes on and on and on.

  7. bobinpa. says:

Sarvis- It’s hard to blame someone when they have done nothing wrong. This Progressive, Socialist,Marxist, LYING, MUSLIM we have in the White House now won’t take the blame for any of his mistakes. He’s a LYING Weasel, and his Regime is Phoney. We have to defeat this regime come November. Firing this Progressive, Racist, Idiot Holder in the DOJ is more then justified. He’s a complete moron.

    • Doc Sarvis says:

This investigation started while Bush was in office so President Obama and his DOJ put an end to it. If President Obama was an exreeme leftist, he would have found a way to lay guilt on Gonzales.

      • Lizzie says:

Oh, Doc…how can you lay blame on Gonzales? Some liberal dems in “service” to their country started this and, with the help of the so-called “mainstream” media it became a pissing contest. It’ll be delightful when the new adminsitration comes to town and the lefties who have been appointed reap their just rewards….

      • Mike Austin,TX says:

It took 2yrs. The liberals Congress started it and could not pin anything on Gonzales or Bush as hard as they tried so the dropped it.

        • Doc Sarvis says:

Congress did state this about the Bush DOJ practices; from the article “an undue sensitivity to politics on the part of DOJ officials who should answer not to partisan politics but to principles of fairness and justice.”

          • American says:

And since when have we seen “answer not to partisan politics but to principles of fairness and justice” take place in this administration’s DOJ? The first thing that comes to my mind is the case of the black panthers who were actually CONVICTED of wrong-doing and awaiting sentencing when the DOJ’s atty. gen. Eric Holder handed down the order to drop the charges. Where are the “principles of fairness and justice” in that? Of course, that’s only one of many examples of unfairness by Holder. The long-lived investigation found nothing that could be considered criminal or unjust but the opportunity to cast President Bush in a bad light simply couldn’t go unused. That’s kind of like calling the kettle black isn’t it?

      • Stan says:

Wrong again Doc it started as soon as the Bush Admin left office. It was Obama DOJ who decided to stir the pot to see who would fall out gulity. But instead of making a big deal of him being innocent and free of charges, the Lefts media puts it out on the back page instead of where it started which was page one

    • s c says:

Bobinpa, re-read the sickening, fawning remarks made by DS. He’s an absolute apologist for a prez who’s doing his worst to saddle America with fascism straight out of Mein Kampf. If DS was a German in WWII, he’d have been a cheerleader at the Neuremberg trials, begging people to see how ‘misunderstood’ the Fuehrer was.
A fuhrer is a fuhrer is a fuhrer – no matter what country is involved. Hitler would be so proud of the insanity coming from Washington these days. Let DS defend that Haavid loser. If he gets paid more than mimimum wage to do it, he’s making way too much money, and indicting himself at the same time.

  8. Subject: A German’s View of Islam

This is by far the best explanation of the Muslim terrorist situation I have ever read. His references to past history are accurate and clear. Not long, easy to understand, and well worth the read. The author of this email is said to be Dr. Emanuel Tanya, a well-known and well-respected psychiatrist.

A man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism. ‘Very few people were true Nazis, ‘he said, ‘but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.’

We are told again and again by ‘experts’ and ‘talking heads’ that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.

The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor-kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers. The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the ‘silent majority,’ is cowed and extraneous.

Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant.
China’s huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.
The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet.
And who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were ‘peace loving’?

History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence. Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don’t speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.

Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late. As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts–the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

Lastly, anyone who doubts that the issue is serious and just deletes this email without sending it on is contributing to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand. So, extend yourself a bit and send this on and on and on! Let us hope that thousands, world-wide, read this and think about it, and send it on – before it’s too late.

Remember, if you forward this, PLEASE REMOVE all email addresses before you send it on and use your BCC area to add addressees. Don’t let other people see your friends email addresses. Just a couple more clicks makes email better for all of us.

    • Stan says:

I would like to believe the rest of muslims are peace loving but the Koran is filled with hate not love. It encourages followers to attack other tribes and spread the power to control other countries. Sharia law is very bias. You either turn to Islam or you will be killed. Their hatered towards Isreal proves it.

  9. Juno says:

It might not have been criminal, but it wasn’t ethical….but then again what was ethical during the Bush Administration!

    • Brad says:

Juno two wrong’s don’t make a right, Clinton fired 93 US attorney’s, where were the investigations into their firings?

    • Stan says:

Well Juno your wrong to these attorneys serve at pleasure of Pres. Bush. How soon you forget Clinton fired everyone of these attorneys when he came to office and not one thing said. Get your facts correct!

  10. Mike Austin,TX says:

They serve at the pleasure of the President. They are appointed positions and can be fired for any reason at any time. Whoever started this investigation should have to repay the taxpayers all of the expenses from their personal account. Barring that, a blanket party would be appropriate.

  11. Ann Mere says:

And the 93 U.S. attorneys fired by the Clinton administration, that was okay. It wasn’t even unethical?

Even Democratic regimes must play by the same rules. It was unethical for the Clinton regime if it was unethical for the Bush administration.

  12. LJ from Kansas says:

How many did Slick Willie fire under his administration??? 93?? And stacked the deck with his own kind??Not a word said, no investigation, nothing. Nothing to do with politics, just winning and forcing your Progressive/Marxist agenda down the throats of the American public. Now Obama has taken this one step further and made Congress and the Constitution irrelevant in that he only enforces laws that push forward his own Marxist agenda via his 40+ Czars and his corrupt DOJ. And where is the press when all this is going on? Kissing Obama’s back side just so they can get a few lop sided crumbs to report so that it looks like they (MSM)are doing their job while our Nation is being destroyed from within by corrupt politicans from the Left.

  13. Chris says:

How can anybody on this site have pity for Gonzales? He was the author of the Patriot ACT, note this act was wrote prior to the implosions of the twin towers & tower # 7 This act was shoved down our throats & started the ” War on Terrorism ” This act was one of the greastest stompings on our right to privacy!! Now with the Health care bill the rest of our rights to privacy have been stolen. Gonzales was no different than Janet Reno, or the current Attorney General, they all are patsies of there boss, if the shit gets to deep, they are thrown to the curb, to protect there boss, the President. Bush is just as guilty of crimes to the American people,& our Constitution, as most all the presidents from the last 100 years.

    • Stan says:

Chris your wrong. also. First it was an explosion done by AIRCRAFT FLYING CLOSE TO THE SPEED OF SOUND. Second, if you did not recieve calls from the middle east you weren’t listen to. They people that had to worry were terrorists. Are you one? There is nothing wrong with the Patriot ACT it keeps us safe. Unless you want to blow up our country. Do You.

      • Chris says:

Stan you keep drinking there kool aid! do you actually beleive that one plane imploded 3 diffferent towers at 3 different times? I wont doubt that 2 of them were hit by a plane. but one plane at the speed of sound? When tower # 7 was imploded that afternoon, I knew something was up, this tower was not hit by anything other than some debri. I have not seen or heard any such conspiracy theory. I’m still not sure what hit the pentagon, but the debri field did not match what a full size plane would have been. I’m not scared or a terrorist, our goverment already had permission to scan those calls from over seas, & were scanning them, The Clinton administration was informed that something of this magnitude was going to happen, it is a fact that the agencies did not share there info so this could be figured out. So the Dept of Homeland Securty was created, another waste of our tax dollars. The depts still dont communicate with each other!!! My question for you is, are one of these 75,000 folks that our goverment hired to infiltrate these type of blogs, to cause dissent & anger???? 90 percent of the folks on this site I believe that they are truely concerned Americans trying to figure out what is happening to the USA, our MSM sure isnt telling us. If you have been paying attention our goverment now believes that anybody that has a Ron Paul sticker on there bumper is a potential terrorist, also our Vets comming back from the wars are potential terrorist, anybody that believes in smaller goverment, flat tax, audit the fed, secure our borders, are all potential terrorist, the list is pretty long! WAKE UP!

        • Joe H. says:

          chris,
First off, you mneed to quit guzzeling the koolaid!!
Second, it was TWO planes not one!!! Third, it was TWO towers not three!!! Dam! I think the koolade made you DRUNK!!!!

  14. 45caliber says:

I thought it was stupid in the first place. The attornies refused to prosecute certain crimes and enforced others, more minor ones. When told to change, they refused. In any other place in the US, if you refuse to obey your boss you would expect to be fired – but they protested. As far as I’m concerned if they won’t obey orders then they shouldn’t expect to remain in place, drawing a salary.

    I’m glad this is over.

  15. Paolo Welsch says:

The DOJ was complicit in all of teh National and international War Crimes of the Bush fascist era of destruction, and genocide of the legal system, and international law regarding violations of Human Rights worldwide.

  16. chuck b says:

    paolo welsch

    spoken like a true communist!!!

  17. mavis says:

This just shows the hatred that the democrats had for George W. Bush, they knew that President Bush had the right to fire the Us attorney general Ingles of New Mexico, but they hated him so much that they brought
charges. The democrats still hate him and he has been out of office for almost 2 years. You know hate has a way of killing the soul. Democrats get on your knees and ask God for forgiveness and also President Bush, or you will never have peace. At least President Bush was president to all Americans, not like the one we have now.mehpensacola,fl
