Cherries shown to counteract arthritis inflammation

Lifestyle and dietary changes, like regular consumption of cherries, may help manage the inflammation, stiffness and pain related to arthritis.
There is evidence that tart cherries may play a role in reducing the pain of arthritis, based on a review of studies published over the years in scientific publications such as Texas Reports on Biology and Medicine, Journal of Nutrition and Behavioral Brain Research.
Compounds called anthocyanins – which are responsible for cherries’ red color – are believed to promote this anti-inflammatory benefit.
Leslie Bonci, director of Sports Nutrition in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, says her clients frequently ask about ways of managing arthritis without pharmacological drugs.
"For many arthritis sufferers, what they eat may help dramatically reduce their arthritis-related pain," she stresses.
That is why she suggests eating cherries as well as other red foods rich in anthocyanins and including omega-3 fatty acids in the diet.
In addition to that, the expert recommends staying properly hydrated and practicing gentle stretching that may increase comfort and lessen pain and stiffness.

I have tried it.Cheeries are giving effective remedy against arthritis pain. But I don’t understand ‘red foods’ . does it involves non- vegetarian ?
Red foods would include red cabbage, beets, blueberries, bilberries, cherries, purple grapes, eggplant and apples. Bob.
my ex-husband used to suffer terribly from gout . he sometimes could not walk and later he got terrible inflammation on his elbows that would swell like balloons , and he would need a doctor to remove the water that would collect there . i suggested he eats cherries or drinks cherry juice and said he should choose the unsweetened ones . several months later , he told me that it was amazing how he was cured of the ailments in spite of not taking any more medication and that he drank cherry juice sweetened as he could not get the unsweetened version and drank plenty of it daily .
his doctor was baffled .
Ok I understand that but how much are you to eat before you see the cherries working.. and other fruits? Does this include canned cherries as well? Thank you
your article should include how many cherries, and how much of the other stuff
My husband has used Fruit Fast Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate for years to control gout. He takes about a tablespoon a day. When on a rare occasion he eats beef, he doubles the amount.
/ We buy it in the deli/specialty juice section of Kroger grocery stores when we are near one. The cost and quality are MUCH better than any other brand we have tried. The juice can be taken by the spoonful or mixed with other fruit juice and/or water. A good combination is 1 T. cherry juice with 1/4 c. orange juice, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and 6 ounces or more of water.
I have a friend who suffers terribly from GOUT , and swears that when he goes on BLACK CHERRY JUICE , he DOES get relief . Maybe it would be wise for everyone to take a drink of Cherry juice once or twice a day .
