The Secret Power of Resveratrol: Nature’s Anti-Aging Miracle

Since the beginning of time people have searched for the secret to extending their lifespan. Whether exploring the location of the fabled Fountain of Youth so they can live longer, or seeking out the latest medical surgery so they can appear younger than their actual age… the quest still continues for longevity and vitality, often with dangerous consequences.

Now recent scientific studies have discovered a simple compound that can help enhance, improve and even lengthen your life—without any negative side effects. Imagine living five… 10… or 15 years longer than the average-age man or woman. It’s not fantasy or science fiction… it’s now medically proven by specialists from the Mayo Clinic and Harvard University that a miracle nutrient called resveratrol found in red wine could be the elixir to extend your life. Resveratrol can also be found in grapes, peanuts, seeds, various Chinese and Japanese herbs, raspberries, blueberries and cranberries.

It all started with a series of molecular breakthroughs discovered by researchers from the University of California’s Irvine and San Francisco campuses and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the late 1980s. The researchers found that in laboratory testing, mice presented a specific set of genes that protected cells from free radical damage and self-destruction after the cell reproductive phase. A single gene was found to literally alter the rate of aging. This gene became known as the “survival gene.”

Some 20 years later, testing at Harvard University conducted by Joseph Baur, Ph.D., and David Sinclair, Ph.D., found that the compound resveratrol contained powerful antioxidants to help protect and activate the survival gene without starving the gene of calories.

By supplementing with resveratrol you can help shut down sick cells and prevent them from multiplying… repair cells faster and keep healthy cells living longer and stronger… increase your lifespan by decades… and virtually wipe out old-age health concerns including blood sugar imbalances, abnormal cell growth, memory loss and cholesterol problems.

Joseph Maroon, M.D., in his book The Longevity Factor: How Resveratrol and Red Wine Activate Genes For a Longer and Healthier Life, states that the life expectancy in the U.S. is roughly 77 years of age. In the 1780s, most people could expect to live to around 35 years old before dying of pneumonia, tuberculosis, chronic diarrhea or enteris—now referred to as the digestive disorder Crohn’s disease. Maroon goes on to explain that during the last 200 years we as a culture have experienced great strides in medicine, nutrition, accident prevention and infection control. However, there are a great many more chemicals, toxins and pesticides in our environment, as well.

These foreign invaders can be responsible for the death of our body’s trillions of disease-fighting cells. Free radical damage and self-destruction mean the death of the cell, and ultimately the end of human life. But Cynthia Kenyon, director of the Hillblom Center for the Biology of Aging at the University of California in San Francisco, stated to Maroon, “If you understand the mechanisms of keeping things repaired, you could keep things going on indefinitely.”

This is why the nutrient resveratrol is so vital to the extension of your life expectancy. Resveratrol can neutralize free radicals to protect your cells, therefore extending cell life—and your life! And resveratrol, as mentioned earlier, can activate the survival gene. The gene can then increase the strength of your cells—especially your brain cells—so you can extend your life expectancy and sharpen your mind because you won’t have lost those essential cells.

For those of you worried about your outward appearance of aging, resveratrol can also help your skin look and feel younger. By increasing your cells’ ability to repair themselves, your skin will appear more vibrant.

Resveratrol blocks free radical damage to all your cells, as Sinclair and Baur discovered, and that includes your skin cells. Environmental factors such as chemicals, toxins, pollution and tobacco smoke are just a few elements your skin can be exposed to every day. This is why daily supplementation of resveratrol is essential—your cells are constantly bombarded by damaging free radicals and continue to die off on a daily basis. But with the miracle antioxidant protection from resveratrol, your skin may begin to lose the appearance of discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles caused by cell damage and destruction.

The amazing and astounding benefits of the red wine compound resveratrol can have a significant and far-reaching effect on the health of your entire body. Resveratrol has been shown to not only protect and repair your body’s cells, but actually enable them to repair themselves while ensuring the sick and dying cells don’t multiply. This could lead to a longer, healthier lifespan for you and your family. If you want to look and feel younger, and continue to celebrate birthday after birthday well beyond your 90s, then put the healing power of resveratrol to work for you.

How can we be assured that the supplements we take are natural and not synthetic or that the amount of ingredients are what the label claims? During the last 50 years or more I have been health conscious and tried many supplements for certain health problem and prevention of other possible health problems. Too many of them did not do what was claimed they would do. I received an email stating what the cost was of the active ingedients are of a variety of prescribed medicines. The cost was as low as two cents per tablet to arount one dollar per tablet and the drugs sold for hundreds of dollars. Compare that with the price of supplements. Many of them are claimed by the vendors that a certain supplement costs less then a dollar a day. How many supplements can a person afford at less-then-a-day supplements. A 30 day supply is always mentioned. How many are there in a family that will pay less-then-a-day for their supplements. Many seniors on social security cannot afford many supplements if at all. How about a married couple with children? The majority of supplements sell at $39.95 plus shipping usually around $6.95 or more for a 30 day supply for one person. Certainly the cost of active ingredients is not the same in all these cases. A person cannot help but believe that the bottom line plays a big role in the cost of supplements.

Don’t buy them if you think they’re too expensive. It’s as simple as that. Or you could help grow government bigger and have no choice at all when they come to the aid of the drug industry and regulate supplements out of existence.

  2. Sharon says:

Drinking grape juice I heard will get you the same benefits. What is your opinion on this?

    • Dear Sharon,

Eating grapes or drinking 100% grape juice are both good sources for resveratrol. However, you will not get it in the quantity you would from taking supplements.

      Best wishes,
      Bob

      • Dee Walker says:

I agree Bob. All the scientific studies published on resveratrol from Harvard etc. are done with pure trans-resveratrol in highly concentrated liquid form. Resveratrol is also extremely volital and reacts to oxygen, heat & light so even if you buy a trans resveratrol liquid formula it needs to be produced without heat, oxygen & light as well as protected from it in the liquid solution.

There are only 2 companies that use these techniques & one supplies 1/3 the amount of resveratrol per dose for over 2x the monthly cost!

I have been taking reservatrol for almost 2 years and the results for my hardeining of the arteries has been remarkable. Before I had to stop after 10-15 steps and can now climb 70 with relative ease. Also, all my life i have had constipation and now there is no problem.
Vitacost (www.vitacost) has just come out with a more reasonably priced product that is 500mg at 98% and yes it is approx $35.00 for 60 but that is almost half of what it used to be.

    • Kathy Gentry says:

joy dinman, I would lkie to ask you , how many years did you have hardening of the arteries?…My father sounds like you used to be…can only take about 10 steps w/o stopping and gasping for breath because he is so exhausted!I might look into resveratrol for him! Thanks. KG

  4. Peter Vanderveen says:

joy dinman I would like to ask you how many milligrams of resveratrol do you take every day to get those results and how long did it take?

  5. s c says:

My info says resveratrol has much potential. My info also says that to get the full effect of this approach, you need to take CoQ10, L-arginine and alpha lipoic acid with it.
The trick is to deal with high-grade, quality sources. If you get products ‘cheap’ at a discount drug store, you’re probably buying watered-down crap. Stick with major brands that have higher standards than the government (not hard to do). Buy products made with standardized doses (pharmaceutical grade, if possible).
    Here’s to your good health.

    • Dee says:

Excellent advise S C. Pharmaceutical grade is key to resveratrol supplements because it is dose sensitive. To get the results science is touting you need to take a supplement with the same amount science used per dose. Around the equivalent of 250 glasses of red wine.

Liquid form, trans-resveratrol, formulated in low light, no heat, pharmaceutical grade facility with nitrogen blanket is the very best!!! Even many large manufacturers do not use these strict guidelines because it is expensive and time consuming.

I am involved with Melaleuca, Inc. They have excellent supplements. I am a kidney transplant and the supplements help me tremendously.

  7. Helmut says:

    Dear PLD
Your article about reservatrol in wine is very interesting. Here in Sydney, Australia, we have a Dr Phillip Norrie, known as “the wine doctor”, who has developed white and red wines containing reservatrol in quantities of a factor of one hundred more than ordinary wine. He is a qualified medical doctor, but has also devoted his life to the study of wine, and has a PHD in that area from the University of Sydney. When his medical practice allows it, he works in his vynyard to the north of Sydney, in the Hunter Valley, well kbown for its excellent reds. Dr Norries’ REW (reservatrol enhanced wines are available from “IQ Wines”. Ihave been drinking REW for over a year now and am enjoying good health. By the way, I do not have a finacial interest in any wine.

  8. Carolyn E. says:

My daughter took resveratrol when she had lyme disease. She also took andrographis. She is 21 and has been symptom free for 3 years. Her cure came from God, actually, and He used a book called: A More Excellent Way, by Henry Wright, to help her learn about the spiritual roots to disease.

  9. Dee says:

Everyone spending money on resveratrol should know that resveratrol alone is an amazing nutrient but there are three other nutrients that work synergistically to enhance its efficacy. Quercetin, catechins & polyphenols. The source you buy should be liquid, pure trans-resveratrol from red grape & Japanese Knotweed with these 3 nutrients added as well as nanosized in an ionic solution to ensure it reaches your blood stream. It is ALL about how much gets into your blood.

Most capsule formulas are not effective for many reasons. During formulation the resveratrol breaks down due to heat, light & oxygen. Once ingested most is lost in stomach acid, science shows that only about 5% of the active resveratrol ends up in your bloodstream from capsule form. Talk about a WASTE OF MONEY!
